Job description
Wood is seeking an Engineer β Corrosion & Materials to provide consultancy services in corrosion, materials selection, and cathodic protection for internal business units and external clients. The role is based in Abu Dhabi with occasional onshore and offshore site support. The engineer will contribute to the completion of engineering workscopes by preparing specifications, data sheets, reports, and studies while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities include reviewing vendor documents under supervision, solving routine engineering problems, supporting design reviews, and providing recommendations on materials acceptability. This role offers opportunities to develop expertise in materials engineering while working towards professional accreditation.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to delivery of materials engineering consultancy services in corrosion, materials, and cathodic protection.
- Execute assigned scopes of work and produce engineering deliverables including philosophies, reports, specifications, and data sheets.
- Perform routine engineering tasks using established standards and procedures.
- Collaborate with technical professionals for non-routine engineering aspects.
- Provide recommendations on materials supplied and contractor work acceptability.
- Conduct research and interpret technical information for materials engineering discipline.
- Participate in design reviews, note-taking, and active contributions.
- Review vendor documents under supervision and guidance.
- Support studies of limited scope requiring prescribed engineering methods.
- Coordinate work with drafters, technicians, and other engineers for project completion.
Experience & skills
- Bachelorβs degree in Engineering (minimum); Masterβs preferred.
- 2β4 years of progressively responsible experience in materials engineering, corrosion, or cathodic protection.
- Working towards Chartership or professional engineer accreditation.
- Demonstrable initial CPD record showing consulting and technical development.
- Ability to create functional and cost-effective designs under supervision.
- Proficiency with engineering design software and database systems.
- Ability to interpret technical information and apply academic theory in practice.
- Awareness of standards, processes, and procedures for execution.
- Developing knowledge of regulatory frameworks and industry developments.
- General computer literacy with familiarity in specialist engineering software.
