Job description
The Risk and Control Manager â Wealth & Personal Banking (UAE National) at HSBC is responsible for overseeing and executing risk and control activities across the Retail, Wealth, and onshore Global Private Banking segments. The role operates as the primary point of accountability for implementing an effective framework that integrates Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Taxonomies and internal control management. Responsibilities include creating, refreshing, and amending Risk and Control Assessments (RCAs) for IWPB, maintaining a robust risk and control environment, and providing expert advice on process improvements and best practices. The position involves preparing and presenting risk and control reports to senior management, monitoring control performance, and collaborating closely with the Country Risk Steward, Operational Risk team, and Country business or functional heads to ensure compliance and effective risk governance. The manager supports initiatives including Data Quality exception reviews, issue and action management, Financial Instruction Manual (FIM) implementation, and conflict of interest management. The position requires an analytical mindset, strong regulatory understanding, and the ability to contextualize risk data within business operations. Key responsibilities
- Operate as the point of accountability for executing an effective framework integrating Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Taxonomies and internal controls for Retail, Wealth, and onshore Global Private Banking
- Create, refresh, and amend Risk and Control Assessment (RCA) outputs for IWPB, ensuring accuracy and completeness across all NFR Taxonomies
- Provide guidance on maintaining an effective risk and control environment within the business functions
- Work collaboratively with the Country Risk Steward, Operational Risk team, and business or functional heads to manage risk effectively
- Identify opportunities to improve risk and control processes and implement best practices
- Prepare and present detailed risk and control reports to senior management and relevant committees
- Monitor and report on control performance data, ensuring governance requirements are met
- Support Data Quality exception reviews, issue and action management, and FIM implementation
- Manage conflict of interest processes and ensure adherence to HSBCâs compliance standards
- Perform additional risk and control activities as assigned under the CCO task allocation and services catalogue
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelorâs degree from a recognized institution
- Have professional experience within banking with exposure to banking activities, products, and systems
- Possess knowledge of the regulatory environment within the financial services sector
- Demonstrate exposure to operations or control environments such as audit or compliance
- Be able to conceptualize operational impacts of business change and contribute to strategic decisions
- Show strong communication, presentation, and influencing skills with stakeholders at all levels
- Have understanding of non-financial risk management, preferably from risk, compliance, consultancy, or audit roles
- Exhibit strong analytical skills to organize and interpret complex data for management insight
- Display ability to prioritize and work independently under pressure in a team environment
