Job description
The Senior Civil/Structural Engineer (Onshore Power & Desalination Plant Infrastructure) functions as a senior technical authority responsible for providing civil and structural engineering oversight and technical assurance throughout the lifecycle of a power generation and desalination plant project. The role requires independent technical capability to manage, review, verify, and approve all civil and structural engineering deliverables produced by contractors from project commencement through completion. The position ensures the suitability and compliance of civil and structural designs for complex industrial infrastructure associated with power generation and desalination facilities, including onshore and marine infrastructure elements. The role involves reviewing and validating contractor civil engineering and structural engineering designs for plant site development including roads, earthworks engineering, complex drainage systems, utility-scale power plants, heavy turbines and generator foundations, and other infrastructure associated with major industrial facilities. The engineer provides technical oversight for the design of dynamic equipment foundations and large prestressed potable water retaining structures, including very large seawater tanks and settlement basins that support desalination plant operations. The position also ensures technical integrity of marine and nearshore civil infrastructure including seawater intake systems, brine discharge systems, nearshore civil works, and coastal protection infrastructure required for desalination and industrial marine operations. Responsibilities include defining engineering scopes of work for geotechnical investigations and topographical investigations, reviewing investigation results, and interpreting outcome reports to ensure appropriate design integration. The role requires experience supporting mega-project construction phases by providing technical guidance and resolving complex civil and structural engineering issues encountered during execution. The engineer participates in multiple engineering lifecycle phases including Concept and Feasibility studies, Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), and Engineering Procurement Installation and Commissioning (EPIC) stages. The role requires familiarity with US and European civil and structural engineering codes and standards and the ability to apply these frameworks when reviewing contractor designs. The position also requires the ability to independently analyze and resolve complex engineering problems without reliance on third-party intervention while managing time, cost, and quality within multi-project engineering environments. The role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary and multicultural project teams and requires clear communication and presentation skills with fluency in English to coordinate engineering decisions and technical assurance activities throughout project development and construction.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical assurance over contractor civil and structural engineering designs for a power generation and desalination plant project by reviewing, verifying, and approving engineering deliverables from project commencement through completion.
- Evaluate and ensure the suitability of civil and structural designs for plant site development including roads, earthworks, complex drainage systems, utility-scale power plants, heavy turbine and generator foundations, and other infrastructure associated with large industrial facilities.
- Review and validate structural engineering designs for dynamic equipment foundations and large prestressed potable water retaining structures including seawater tanks and settlement basins supporting desalination plant operations.
- Ensure the integrity of marine and nearshore civil infrastructure designs including seawater intake systems, brine discharge systems, nearshore civil works, and coastal protection infrastructure required for desalination and industrial marine operations.
- Develop engineering scopes of work for geotechnical investigations and topographical investigations, review investigation reports, and interpret outcomes to support engineering design validation and project development.
- Provide technical support during construction phases of mega-projects by resolving complex civil and structural engineering issues encountered during project execution.
- Participate in multiple project lifecycle stages including Concept and Feasibility studies, Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), and Engineering Procurement Installation and Commissioning (EPIC) phases.
- Apply US and European civil and structural engineering codes and standards when reviewing contractor designs and ensuring compliance with engineering best practices.
- Manage engineering deliverables across multiple projects while ensuring effective control of project time, cost, and quality objectives within a multi-project engineering environment.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary and multicultural engineering teams while communicating technical findings, design recommendations, and engineering decisions effectively.
