Job description
The Legal Counsel will play a critical role in safeguarding the Foundationās legal interests through the drafting, review, and negotiation of a wide range of contracts and legal documents. Operating in a complex legal landscape, the role demands expertise in both Qatari and international legal standards. The counsel will provide strategic legal advice to various departments including Finance, HR, IT, and Procurement, ensuring regulatory compliance, proactive risk management, and alignment with long-term organizational goals. The position is based in Al Rayyan, Qatar, and offers a dynamic and impactful opportunity within a mission-driven foundation.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate contractual arrangements, including those with contractors, customers, consultants, suppliers, lessors, shippers, buyers, lenders, etc.
- Take a proactive legal role with respect to Finance, Procurement, IT, PR & Marketing and HR issues.
- Keep informed of any incidents that may have legal implications and take action as appropriate.
- Work closely with lenders' legal representatives to ensure compliance with loan agreements.
- Work closely with insurers on loss prevention.
- Develop contingency plans for worst-case scenarios (losses, environmental damage, etc.).
- Establish and maintain standards and policies within the Foundation to ensure compliance.
- Reconcile Qatari Arabic laws with English contracts and agreements.
- Ensure all parties are aware of the legal implications of their actions.
- Provide advice on legal implications in current and long-range mission plans and programs.
- Review and evaluate total program for attainment of objectives.
- Advise on laws, regulations, and court or administrative opinions in areas such as Administrative Law, Contract, Environmental, Litigation, Fiscal, Civilian Personnel, Standards of Conduct, Conflicts of Interest, and government ethics.
- Other reasonable tasks as assigned by supervisor and legal management.
Experience & skills
- Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts across multiple functions.
- Strong knowledge of Qatari law and ability to reconcile it with English-language agreements.
- Experience advising on legal matters across finance, HR, procurement, IT, and marketing.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and administrative law.
- Ability to manage legal risks and develop contingency strategies.
- Proven ability to advise on diverse legal matters including litigation, environmental and ethics regulations.
- Experience working with insurers and lenders on compliance and risk prevention.
