Job description
The Principal Production Engineer will provide robust Production Engineering expertise to OQ’s Subsurface development team in Oman, focusing on BISAT field development. The role involves planning production, well design and completion, and applying best practices in well and reservoir management. The incumbent will optimize production through well surveillance, troubleshooting, artificial lift design, completions, and workovers, while providing mentorship to junior engineers. The position also requires close collaboration with reservoir engineers, geologists, contractors, and technical committees to maximize asset value.

Key responsibilities
- Lead, develop and provide operability, availability, and reliability judgments on production optimization systems
- Mentor and coach production engineers to improve skills and independence
- Optimize well production through daily surveillance and troubleshooting performance issues
- Design and implement frac jobs, well testing, artificial lift systems, completions, and workovers
- Develop well intervention and stimulation proposals and ensure execution
- Analyze field data using engineering tools to optimize production and support field development
- Contribute to monthly production planning and reservoir surveillance
- Monitor well failure rates and conduct RCFA, recommending solutions to reduce failures
- Participate in integrated field studies for hydrocarbon resource maturation
- Evaluate well and reservoir performance and recommend improvement opportunities
- Provide production engineering input to business planning and well proposals
- Prepare and review Field Development Plans and optimization studies
- Collaborate with reservoir engineers and geologists to maximize asset value
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent (Master’s preferred)
- 10+ years of relevant experience in oil and gas exploration and production
- Experience in new ventures, JVs, and operated assets
- Experience in multidisciplinary integrated teams and exploration opportunity ranking
- Proven record of technical reviews, audits, and Field Development Plan preparation
- Strong expertise in well and reservoir management, production operations, and completion procedures
- Experience with PETEX IPM, Landmark, Petrel, and ArcGIS software
- 3D geological modelling skills, preferably in Petrel
- Experience in tight gas reservoirs is an advantage
- Certifications in first aid, H2S Alive, WHMIS (desirable)
- Fluent in English; Arabic desirable
