Job description
The Associate Director, Conceptual Engineering at Masdar will be responsible for delivering technical and techno-economic services throughout the project lifecycle for renewable energy projects globally, including solar PV, wind, thermal/process-based technologies, and energy storage. This role involves strategic planning, project supervision, resource allocation, technology leadership, and team mentoring. It includes providing conceptual engineering, leading feasibility and concept design studies, managing consultants, and participating in all stages of project development, procurement, and commissioning. The position requires strong industry expertise, a track record in engineering leadership, and the ability to navigate complex energy project environments.

Key responsibilities
- Contribute to the execution of the operation's annual objectives in line with Masdarās strategy.
- Provide strategic input and risk management analysis to support technological and environmental trends.
- Monitor long-term technology and market trends and advise on Masdarās innovation strategy.
- Organize and supervise technical work, ensuring efficient assignment and execution.
- Lead provision of conceptual engineering for all RE projects and operational assets.
- Incorporate new tools and software to enhance technical delivery.
- Lead technical feasibility studies, concept design, and layout optimization.
- Manage contracting and supervision of technical consultants.
- Oversee on-site resource assessment, including installation and operation processes.
- Lead energy yield assessment using advanced modelling tools.
- Supervise geotechnical and topographical study procurement and execution.
- Procure technical advisors and provide RFP technical input for EPC, O&M, and OEM.
- Participate in contract negotiations regarding technical components.
- Endorse final technology selection and support procurement of main equipment.
- Recommend infrastructure changes to improve performance and reduce costs.
- Provide operational technical support to Portfolio Management.
- Review performance reports from operational RE assets.
- Participate in Technical Advisory Committees for operational assets.
Experience & skills
- Masterās Degree in Engineering or Renewable Energy or related field.
- Chartered Engineer status is an asset (e.g. IET, EUR Ing, PEng).
- Project Management certification (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2) is an asset.
- 12 years of experience in the renewable energy industry.
- Experience in EPC contractors, developers, engineering firms or technical consultancy.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of renewable energy and traditional energy sectors.
- Understanding of engineering trends and R&D in clean energy.
- Experienced in plant simulation software and AutoCAD.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- Attention to detail and team leadership abilities.
