The Assistant Manager – Tax & Legal – Direct Tax – Business Tax General role is based in Muscat, Oman, within Deloitte’s Tax & Legal practice. The position operates within the Business Tax General function and focuses on applying direct tax knowledge to client engagements across consulting and compliance assignments. In this role, the Assistant Manager applies knowledge and skills of relevant tax rules and regulations to address client problems and independently presents findings, recommends advice, and implements tax solutions while consulting others as needed. The position requires reviewing written technical advice, reports, memoranda, and other deliverables relevant to tax laws and rules to ensure adequacy of research conducted and appropriateness and accuracy of conclusions. The role demonstrates advanced knowledge of key capabilities required to deliver a high-quality tax service experience and selects appropriate methods for collecting and analyzing data to develop informed recommendations. Responsibilities include interpreting and synthesizing data, exercising professional skepticism to challenge data, and identifying meaningful insights to support clients’ business objectives. The Assistant Manager articulates how technology enables the business and ensures appropriate technologies and methodologies are used on tax projects. The position assists clients in completing timely and accurate tax and financial filings and compliance activities, identifies and sets timelines within the framework of tax compliance work, and drafts reports identifying key issues and risks while proposing solutions related to tax planning and implementation strategies. The role prepares advice to clients on filing requirements, documentation, and the effects of tax advice for tax provisions, and identifies and bridges gaps between information provided by clients and information required by tax authorities. It also involves drafting clear and succinct formal response letters or dispute application letters in relation to tax matters. The position requires 5–7 years of general tax experience, preferably including experience with a Big 4 firm, law firm, or large corporate tax department of a multinational company, and experience in consulting and compliance engagements. Experience with inbound and outbound international tax is preferred, along with excellent research skills and strong written and verbal communication skills. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or another business-related field is required, with advanced degrees such as MST, JD, or LLM preferred, and CPA preferred. Fluency in English is mandatory, and fluency in Arabic is considered a plus.

- Review written technical advice, tax reports, memoranda, and other tax deliverables to assess adequacy of research conducted and ensure appropriateness and accuracy of conclusions in compliance with tax laws and regulations
- Select appropriate methods for collecting and analyzing data, interpret and synthesize financial and tax data, exercise professional skepticism to challenge assumptions, and develop informed recommendations that effectively support client business objectives
- Assist clients in completing timely and accurate tax filings and financial filings, manage tax compliance activities, identify and set timelines for key tasks within the framework of tax compliance work, and ensure adherence to filing requirements and documentation standards
- Draft reports identifying key tax issues and risks, propose solutions for tax planning and implementation strategies, prepare advice on tax provisions and filing requirements, bridge information gaps between client data and tax authority requirements, and draft formal response letters or dispute application letters related to tax matters
Experience & skills
- Possess 5–7 years of general tax experience, preferably including at least one year focused on taxation, with experience in a Big 4 firm, law firm, or large corporate tax department of a multinational company, and demonstrate consulting and compliance experience in direct tax and business tax engagements
- Demonstrate experience with inbound international tax and outbound international tax matters, along with strong tax research capabilities and in-depth knowledge of tax laws and regulations and business laws and regulations
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other business-related field, with advanced degrees such as MST, JD, or LLM preferred, and CPA qualification preferred
- Exhibit excellent research skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to draft technical tax reports and formal response letters, and capability to analyze data and prepare tax advisory and tax compliance documentation
- Maintain fluency in English as a mandatory requirement, with fluency in Arabic considered a plus, and demonstrate ability to manage multiple tax compliance and advisory assignments within defined timelines
