Job description
The Head of Mathematics at GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi is a senior academic leadership role responsible for driving excellence in Mathematics education across the secondary phase within an international school offering the International Baccalaureate framework alongside elements of the British curriculum. Based on Al Reem Island, the role focuses on delivering outstanding teaching and learning, leading curriculum planning and assessment, maintaining current knowledge of exam boards and pathways at Key Stage 4 and 5, and using student performance data to optimise progress and personalise learning. The position requires strong subject expertise in Mathematics, proven or emerging departmental leadership capability, and the ability to inspire and develop a team of teachers. The role also contributes to safeguarding, studentsā personal and social development, extra-curricular activities, community engagement, and continuous professional growth within the globally respected GEMS Education network, starting from August 2026.

Key responsibilities
- Lead and drive excellence in Mathematics teaching and learning across the secondary phase
- Demonstrate strong subject knowledge and oversee curriculum planning, assessment, and progression at Key Stage 4 and 5
- Provide inspirational leadership to develop, support, and motivate Mathematics faculty staff
- Deliver consistently outstanding teaching and learning experiences and promote best practice collaboration
- Use student performance data to optimise progress and personalise learning pathways
- Ensure safeguarding and support the personal and social development of students
- Engage effectively with colleagues, students, and parents to support academic and community objectives
- Contribute actively to extra-curricular programmes and community-based events
- Pursue continuous professional development as a teacher and educational leader
- Carry out additional reasonable duties as directed by the CEO and Principal
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelorās degree in Mathematics or a closely related field with a recognised teaching qualification or teaching license
- Demonstrate proven leadership experience within a Mathematics department or clear potential to assume a Head of Department role
- Show a strong track record of outstanding teaching, student progress, and academic achievement
- Have experience teaching within the British curriculum and/or the International Baccalaureate framework
- Meet safeguarding requirements including a UK-enhanced DBS or equivalent police check
