Job description
The Senior Design Engineer role within Al Futtaim Construction is responsible for coordinating design information and producing comprehensive workshop and shop drawings to support building construction projects across the real estate portfolio. The role requires deep expertise in civil and architectural engineering, ensuring alignment between architectural, structural, interior design, and MEP services drawings. The Senior Design Engineer reviews contract, tender, and IFC documentation to identify gaps, discrepancies, and design modifications, raising RFIs where required. The position oversees drafting technicians, reviews steel drawings and Bar Bending Schedules, validates subcontractor submissions against BOQs, and ensures compliance with project specifications and Dubai local authority regulations. The role includes close coordination with consultants, clients, subcontractors, and internal teams, conducting site inspections, providing technical support during execution, and maintaining detailed technical documentation libraries. The position demands advanced knowledge of construction processes, BIM workflows, drawing coordination, and regulatory compliance to ensure high-quality, timely, and safe project delivery.

Key responsibilities
- Review project and contract documents to identify gaps, discrepancies, and modifications between tender and IFC packages across architectural, structural, ID, and MEP drawings
- Raise Requests for Information (RFIs) to resolve missing or conflicting design information
- Prepare rough drafts and scaled working drawings and guide drafting technicians in producing final shop drawings
- Review and coordinate shop drawings for structural, architectural, and interior design elements
- Coordinate closely with MEP teams to ensure seamless design integration
- Review and approve steel drawings, details, and Bar Bending Schedules (BBS) for accuracy and compliance
- Verify subcontractor works against Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and highlight discrepancies
- Ensure timely submission and approval of shop drawings with consultants
- Manage subcontractor and supplier submittals for materials and drawings
- Maintain project technical issue logs and manage the technical document library
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify correct implementation during construction
- Provide technical support and resolve design-related issues during execution
- Act as the primary technical liaison with clients and consultants
- Plan and manage workload independently to meet project priorities and timelines
- Adhere to safety, quality, and environmental procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Experience & skills
- Hold a graduate degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture Engineering
- Possess a minimum of 10 years of GCC experience working in technical offices of main contractors on building projects
- Demonstrate proficiency in AutoCAD, BIM, MS Office, and PDF editor software
- Exhibit strong understanding of Dubai local authority requirements and regulations
- Show advanced knowledge of design coordination, shop drawing preparation, and construction techniques
- Have experience supervising drafting teams and coordinating multidisciplinary design inputs
