Job description
The Senior Mechanical Engineer role at Mott MacDonald in Abu Dhabi is a permanent, full-time position within the Buildings market, focused on mechanical engineering delivery for high-rise building projects. The role operates within multidisciplinary construction teams and is responsible for overseeing all mechanical components of residential and large housing developments. Core responsibilities include managing construction activities related to district cooling, ventilation and air conditioning systems, fire and life safety systems such as smoke control and staircase pressurisation, heat recovery systems, and Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS). The role requires endorsement and review of shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, as-built drawings, and testing and commissioning documentation. Strong design capability is required to assess field change requests, determine their impact, and coordinate with internal design teams to complete any necessary redesigns. The engineer coordinates closely with all disciplines and external stakeholders to ensure feasibility of MEP service layouts and prepares or supervises the preparation of plant general arrangement drawings, P&IDs, feasibility reports, calculations, specifications, plant schedules, tenders, schedules of prices, engineerās estimates, and factory and site acceptance documentation. The role also includes representing the company in technical meetings with clients, supervising junior staff, providing technical and professional guidance, and ensuring required review documentation includes comments, recommendations, and corrective action plans for prime contractors. Experience & skills
- Bachelorsā degree in Mechanical Engineering from an internationally accredited university
- Experience in a similar role within residential developments or large housing schemes
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge of mechanical engineering services including HVAC, public health, and fire and life safety systems
