Job description
The Head of Business and Economics at GEMS Wellington Academy, Silicon Oasis, is a senior educational leader responsible for shaping the teaching and learning of Business and Economics within the Primary School. The role emphasizes embedding the school's philosophy of developing 'World Class and World Ready' students, aligning with GEMS WSO’s mission to prepare learners for academic success and life beyond the classroom. The incumbent will lead a team of Business and Economics teachers, ensuring high-quality teaching through mentoring, coaching, and fostering collaboration. Responsibilities include adapting learning for diverse student needs, implementing evidence-based teaching strategies, promoting creativity and engagement, and supporting the holistic development of students. The role involves contributing to the school community through extra-curricular initiatives and upholding the values of excellence, integrity, and aspiration. Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of Business and Economics teachers to ensure high-quality teaching and learning across the Primary School.
- Develop and implement innovative, evidence-based pedagogical strategies and lesson plans tailored to the needs of all learners.
- Monitor teaching standards and student progress, providing regular feedback, coaching, and professional development opportunities for staff.
- Foster a collaborative culture among teachers, encouraging sharing of best practices and alignment with GEMS WSO teaching philosophy.
- Promote creativity, engagement, and fun in lessons while maintaining rigorous academic standards and assessment practices.
- Contribute actively to the school's extra-curricular programmes and community-based events to enhance the holistic development of students.
- Engage with students, parents, and colleagues to build positive relationships and a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
- Support the continuous improvement of school processes, curriculum development, and educational initiatives aligned with school vision and mission.
Experience & skills
- Hold a BEd or Bachelor's degree with PGCE / PGDE or equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience in leading, mentoring, and supporting teachers in Business and Economics education.
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to develop and implement evidence-based teaching strategies and creative lesson plans.
- Growth mindset with reflective, solution-focused approach to educational challenges.
- Proven track record of delivering outstanding learning outcomes and enhancing student achievement.
