Job description
The Merchandiser Team Leader (FMCG Retail Operations) is responsible for supervising and guiding a team of merchandisers to ensure effective execution of merchandising operations across assigned retail outlets. The role focuses on maintaining optimal product display, stock availability, planogram compliance, and product visibility to drive sales performance and strengthen brand presence. The position involves leading daily merchandising activities, ensuring execution of promotions, and aligning closely with Sales and Key Account teams for operational priorities. Core responsibilities include supervising merchandiser routing, attendance, and outlet coverage, conducting field audits to evaluate display quality, and ensuring products are properly stocked, priced, and labeled. The role requires strict implementation of FIFO and expiry management processes, monitoring stock levels, and reporting shortages, damages, and non-moving items. The Team Leader oversees the placement and maintenance of POSM and promotional materials while preparing daily and weekly performance reports and tracking KPIs. The role also involves gathering market insights and competitor activity data to support sales strategies. From a people management perspective, the position includes mentoring, coaching, and developing team members, planning schedules and routes, monitoring discipline and grooming standards, and supporting recruitment and training initiatives. The role ensures adherence to company policies, operational standards, and compliance requirements while fostering a collaborative team environment in a fast-paced FMCG retail setting.

Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily merchandising operations across assigned retail outlets to ensure execution of planograms, promotions, and product visibility standards
- Supervise merchandisers’ routing, attendance, scheduling, and outlet coverage to ensure operational efficiency
- Conduct regular field visits to audit product display quality, provide coaching, and ensure compliance with merchandising standards
- Ensure products are properly stocked, priced, labeled, and managed using FIFO and expiry management practices
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages, damages, and non-moving items to relevant stakeholders
- Oversee placement and maintenance of POSM and promotional materials to enhance brand visibility
- Prepare daily and weekly reports on merchandising performance and track KPIs to support business decisions
- Analyze competitor activities and provide market insights to Sales teams for strategic alignment
- Coordinate with Sales and Key Account teams to prioritize tasks and align merchandising activities
- Train, mentor, and coach merchandisers to improve performance, productivity, and compliance with operational standards
- Plan and assign daily routes and outlet schedules for merchandising teams
- Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, grooming standards, and work discipline
Experience & skills
- Possess 2–4 years of merchandising experience in FMCG or retail environments
- Demonstrate at least 1 year of experience in a supervisory or team leader role
- Exhibit knowledge of retail merchandising standards including planograms, product display, and stock management
- Apply FIFO and expiry management practices in retail operations
- Demonstrate proficiency in MS Office and basic reporting tools for performance tracking
- Show ability to plan routes, manage schedules, and optimize outlet coverage
- Exhibit strong team supervision, coaching, and performance management capabilities
- Demonstrate ability to monitor inventory, pricing, labeling, and promotional material execution
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with internal teams and stakeholders
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively in a fast-paced FMCG retail environment
