Job description
The Principle Electrical Engineer (Port Cranes) leads the design, development, and implementation of port crane projects and manufactured products, acting as a subject matter expert and center of excellence across business segments. The role spans evaluation of existing electrical systems on cranesâincluding PLCs, VFD, SCADA, HMIs, and low-voltage distributionâdefinition of specifications, and selection of upgraded components from Siemens, ABB, Fuji, or equivalent suppliers. Responsibilities include the final approval of design documentation with accountability for released designs; verification and approval of cost estimates in cooperation with Engineers and Project Managers; and conducting design reviews of port equipment for electrical and automation design and safety standards. The engineer develops electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts, ensures compliance with IEC, ISO, IEEE, and other relevant standards, selects and specifies electrical components (motors, drives, sensors, control systems), and reviews, validates, and approves PLC, VFD, and SCADA system updates to the latest OEM versions. The position coordinates with mechanical engineers and cross-functional teams to integrate electrical systems into port crane designs; provides technical support and troubleshooting for port cranes; demonstrates knowledge of port electrical infrastructure and interfaces between port equipment; prepares electrical layouts, drawings, and schematics for reefer racks design, manufactured products, and upgrade projects; assists the Lead Engineer with technical specifications and project estimations while liaising with subcontractors; and mentors senior and junior engineers. The engineer must be proficient in substation, switchgear, cable sizing and scheduling; reading technical drawings; preparing method statements and risk assessments; liaising with procurement to ensure prompt deliveries; and preparing technical inspection reports and project documentation for final handover with punch list works, resource and cost allocation. The role enforces the highest level of safety in all WCS activities, implements and monitors WCSâ HSE compliance policy, and serves as an ambassador for DP World by promoting positive behaviours aligned with DP Worldâs Principles, values, culture, and Code of Conduct and Ethics.
