Job description
Petrofac is a leading international service provider to the energy sector, providing design, build, management, and maintenance of infrastructure for global energy clients. The Senior Engineer - Construction (Civil & Structural) is responsible for leading civil and structural engineering activities on oil, gas, and energy projects in Abu Dhabi, UAE, ensuring high-quality execution in line with plans, specifications, and international standards. This role oversees subcontractors and field personnel, monitors daily progress, manages inspection and testing, coordinates with Engineering and PMT teams, and ensures compliance with the Petrofac Management System, contract requirements, and regulatory obligations. The engineer prepares and reviews construction plans, schedules, and cost reports, validates site execution, supervises critical activities, implements standardized construction processes, and maintains safety, quality, and work documentation. The role requires extensive technical knowledge in civil, structural, and building engineering, including reinforced concrete, structural steel, roads, drainage, foundations, HVAC, electrical, and instrumentation systems. The Senior Engineer participates in design validation, technical bid evaluations, site surveys, and vendor document reviews. They ensure closure of NCRs, corrective actions, and quality observations while supervising competent construction personnel and subcontractors. The position supports hybrid work with office presence at least three days per week and contributes to Petrofacās mission of delivering energy infrastructure safely, efficiently, and sustainably.

Key responsibilities
- Direct field personnel and subcontractors to execute project works according to 90-day look-ahead schedules and project plans, ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to specifications
- Ensure all construction activities comply with contract requirements, Petrofac Management System, international and national standards, and safety regulations
- Develop plans, schedules, and estimates for assigned work scopes and participate in 6-week look-ahead planning
- Review and approve subcontractor execution plans, challenge for efficiency and alignment with schedule, safety, and quality requirements
- Prepare and discuss construction methods and sequence of works for critical activities with subcontractors
- Coordinate with Engineering & PMT to ensure activities are constraint-free and resolve discrepancies in IFC drawings and technical queries
- Monitor progress through daily reports, PPC implementation, inspection/test reports, and quantity reporting, and escalate issues impacting project execution
- Review work procedures, method statements, and quality inspection processes for civil, concrete, steel, road, and architectural works
- Ensure storage and preservation of equipment and materials, adherence to system turnover plans, and implementation of Build Right First Time (QinC) processes
- Participate in site inspections, quality control, and closure of punch items, NCRs, CARs, daily surveillance reports, and construction observation forms
- Support subcontractor cost management, site instructions, variation orders, payment clearances, and change request evaluations
- Conduct review of technical inquiry requisitions, soil and topographic reports, vendor submissions, and design calculations to validate compliance with specifications and budget
- Review topographic layouts, foundations, structural steel, buildings, roads, drainage, and other civil and structural drawings
- Ensure compliance with lifting and scaffolding supervision standards where applicable
Experience & skills
- Minimum 8 years of civil and structural engineering experience in direct hire construction within international oil & gas EPC projects
- Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution
- Experience working in CIS/FSU, Middle East, or North Africa regions
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines and subcontractors
- Familiarity with international codes and standards (BS, ASTM, ACI), concrete/asphalt mix designs, and laboratory testing
- Proficient in interpreting structural drawings including reinforcement and steelwork, and capable of resolving civil and building issues onsite
- Knowledge of quantity estimation, cost assessment, and construction project documentation
- Trained or experienced in lifting and scaffolding supervision (preferred)
