Job description
The Senior Manager, Sustainable Finance and Transition leads sustainability and transition coverage for priority clients and designated segments within HSBCâs Commercial Banking/Corporate and Institutional Bank portfolio in the UAE, reporting to the Regional Head of Sustainable Finance and Transition, Middle East. The role develops market-leading sustainability content and thought leadership to support C-suite dialogue, delivering market and sector insights and buy-side intel while connecting clients to investment opportunities and climate tech providers. Responsibilities include client planning by leading the Sustainable Finance & Transition (SFT) component; managing policies, financed emissions, transition engagement questionnaires and transition plan assessments with coverage; originating sustainable finance across all products and leading end-to-end structuring and execution of sustainable finance deals for loans; and supporting origination of non-labelled products through strategic sustainability dialogue. The position commercializes client sustainability insights and pitch propositions with ESG product partners, informs and launches innovative solutions to support client transition needs, and enables and upskills frontline teams while coordinating across products and centers of excellence to drive commercialization and risk management. The role partners with marketing and communications to promote HSBCâs efforts, including speaking at industry events, and manages greenwashing risk by supporting banking teams on risks arising from sustainability policies and execution of sustainable finance transactions in close collaboration with business sustainability risk.

- Develop and deliver market-leading sustainability content and thought leadership to enable C-suite dialogue, sector insights, buy-side intelligence, and access to investment opportunities.
- Lead the SFT component of client planning with global relationship bankers (GRBs), embedding sustainability objectives into account strategies.
- Manage policies, financed emissions, transition engagement questionnaires, and transition plan assessments in partnership with coverage teams.
- Originate sustainable finance opportunities across products and lead the end-to-end structuring and execution of sustainable finance loan transactions.
- Support origination of non-labelled banking products via strategic sustainability dialogue that deepens relationships and share of wallet.
- Create client sustainability insights and pitch propositions, engaging ESG product partners as relevant to address client needs.
- Develop relationships with client sustainability stakeholders (e.g., CSO, COO, innovation and investment teams) to expand solution uptake.
- Connect clients to relevant partners and climate tech providers to accelerate transition pathways.
- Inform and launch propositions that address customer transition needs, aligned to market dynamics and regulatory expectations.
- Coordinate across products and centers of excellence to enable and upskill frontline teams, ensuring effective commercialization and risk management.
- Collaborate with marketing and communications to promote HSBCâs sustainability efforts and represent the bank at industry events.
- Support banking teams in managing greenwashing risk by applying sustainability policies and controls during transaction execution in partnership with business sustainability risk.
Experience & skills
- Demonstrate ability to lead cross-functional initiatives that identify sustainability-driven commercial opportunities within client segments and guide bankers to position relevant solutions.
- Possess knowledge of key sustainability topics with experience conducting technical sustainability conversations with clients.
- Show knowledge of banking products and experience partnering with transaction banking and event product teams.
- Provide evidence of originating and executing sustainable finance labelled products with a successful track record.
- Demonstrate experience informing and commercialising product and proposition development for sustainability offerings.
- Exhibit experience building strong relationships with first line and second line Risk partners and functions.
- Show experience creating a âone teamâ approach to drive outcomes and organisational change across stakeholders.
- Demonstrate success in driving priority change at pace while setting and managing realistic expectations.
- Display strong work diligence and accountability with consistent follow-through on client requests, timely and accurate deliverables, and proactive communications.
