Job description
Wood is seeking a Project Director to lead critical brownfield and greenfield oil & gas projects from its Sharjah Engineering Hub, with oversight extending to high-impact operations in Iraq. This role demands deep expertise in the full EPCM lifecycle, from design to commissioning, across major production facilities. The Project Director will own P&L accountability, manage large multidisciplinary teams, negotiate with clients and subcontractors, ensure safety compliance, and drive strategic and financial outcomes for contracts exceeding $50 million. Success in this position requires mastery of stakeholder engagement, risk control, innovation in execution (e.g., digitalisation), and high performance under complex contractual frameworks. Travel to Iraq is required.

Key responsibilities
- Oversee full-cycle project delivery for large oil & gas projects, from design to handover under EPCM/EPS/EP/E models.
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary project team ensuring alignment with contract objectives and safety protocols.
- Own commercial and financial outcomes of the project (P&L), including cost controls, cash collection, and margin optimization.
- Prepare and review project proposals, execution plans, budgets, org charts, risk registers, and deliverables.
- Negotiate project scope changes with clients using a formal change management process.
- Utilize digitalisation, high-value engineering centers, and innovative tools to enhance project delivery.
- Lead stakeholder engagement with clients, regulators, contractors, suppliers, and community partners.
- Ensure project adherence to HSSE, quality, and corporate standards.
- Establish and maintain project assurance protocols and governance frameworks.
- Drive compliance with risk management processes and implement mitigation strategies.
- Conduct project evaluations, performance reviews, and audits.
- Champion diversity, inclusion, safety, and ethical practices across the project lifecycle.
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās or Masterās degree in Engineering or Project Management from an accredited university.
- Minimum 25 years of industry experience, including 15 years of project management for oil & gas projects above $50 million.
- Expertise in managing Lump Sum EPC contracts across full life cycle.
- Strong track record of delivery in the Middle East, particularly Iraq, preferred.
- PMP/APM certification or equivalent preferred.
- Strong capability in contract negotiation, stakeholder management, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Demonstrated expertise in digital project tools, risk forecasting, cost projection, and change control.
- Excellent leadership, mentoring, and people management skills across diverse, cross-border teams.
- Experience in managing multi-phase project budgets and contract execution plans.
- Deep understanding of HSSE protocols, vendor categorization, and performance recovery techniques.
- Fluency in English; Arabic proficiency is a plus.
