Job description
The Senior Environmental Engineer - Projects & Studies at ENOC (Emirates National Oil Company) is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and delivery of environmental and sustainability programs across major projects. The role serves as a technical authority and point of reference for environmental studies, ensuring compliance with ENOCās HSE policies, UAE regulations, and international standards. The incumbent will lead environmental reviews during project planning, design, and execution, providing expert guidance to business units to mitigate environmental risks and achieve sustainable operational outcomes. This includes developing environmental standards, conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), and Environmental Management Plans (EMP), as well as managing carbon footprint and climate change studies. The Senior Environmental Engineer will also ensure effective pollution prevention, waste reduction, and energy/resource optimization initiatives. The position involves liaising with regulatory bodies, contractors, and stakeholders, overseeing environmental compliance audits, and investigating incidents across ENOCās domestic and overseas operations. Additionally, the role contributes to capability building by developing environmental training programs, leading vendor environmental evaluations, and supporting continuous improvement in sustainability performance throughout the organization.

Key responsibilities
- Develop and design environmental manuals and guidelines for ENOC projects in line with international best practices
- Review project designs across ENOC group entities to ensure compliance with ENOC HSE standards and UAE/local environmental regulations
- Conduct environmental reviews throughout project life cycles to monitor risk management and compliance
- Identify environmental hazards, recommend mitigation measures, and ensure adherence to applicable laws and standards
- Develop strategies for waste minimization, emissions reduction, and flaring control
- Establish ENOC-wide standards for environmental studies, aligning with international frameworks and local regulations
- Support business units in conducting EIAs, ESAs, EMPs, and sustainability studies including carbon footprint and climate change assessments
- Review and validate contractorsā construction environmental management plans (CEMPs) and monitor implementation effectiveness
- Liaise with government, municipal, and environmental agencies to maintain compliance and share best practices
- Ensure regulatory compliance obligations are met in a cost-effective and sustainable manner
- Communicate environmental policies and requirements to employees, contractors, and clients
- Lead and conduct investigations into major environmental incidents and prepare corrective action reports
- Develop and deliver specialized environmental training programs for project managers, HSE leaders, and contractors
- Oversee vendor environmental prequalification and perform HSE evaluations during tender assessments
- Promote environmental awareness programs to improve compliance culture across ENOC sites
- Contribute to the enhancement of ENOCās sustainability initiatives, integrating resource efficiency and pollution prevention
- Maintain current knowledge of environmental regulations, trends, and emerging technologies in the energy sector
- Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing environmental performance and recommendations for improvement
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās degree in Chemical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science (Masterās degree preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the chemical, petrochemical, or oil and gas industry, or 8 years in an environmental consultancy
- Strong understanding of UAE federal and municipal environmental laws and international environmental standards
- Certified ISO 14001 Lead Auditor qualification preferred
- Experience in conducting environmental studies including EIA, ESA, EMP, and sustainability analyses
- Proven ability to develop and implement environmental policies, frameworks, and compliance programs
- Experience managing pollution prevention and waste management initiatives in industrial settings
- Strong analytical and research skills with capability to interpret environmental data and identify trends
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for internal and external stakeholder engagement
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and analytical software tools for environmental data analysis and reporting
- Strong organizational and time management skills, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to investigate environmental incidents and recommend practical solutions to prevent recurrence
- Experience delivering environmental training and promoting awareness within industrial operations
- Knowledge of sustainable resource management, emissions reduction, and climate change mitigation practices
