Job description
The Senior Business Developer for Renewables and Batteries will be responsible for developing utility-scale solar, onshore wind, and battery projects across the Middle East and wider AMEA region. This includes leading projects from conceptualization through financial close, negotiating partnerships and contracts, and ensuring compliance with ENGIE’s investment criteria and business development procedures. The role reports to the Head of Business Development Renewables & Batteries for MENA and requires strong technical, financial, and negotiation expertise to drive projects successfully.

Key responsibilities
- Be accountable for development of renewable and batteries opportunities from conceptualization to financial close
- Carry out proactive prospection and screen/evaluate opportunities
- Lead development activities with the support of a multifunctional team up to financial close
- Negotiate to close a successful proposal submission in compliance with investment criteria and risk mandate
- Contribute to defining regional BD procedures, methods and documentation
- Support PAMT development plan and AMEA Renewables & Batteries Business plan
- Identify predevelopment opportunities and enable an early position for the group
- Produce, present, and obtain approvals for origination and development memos
- Identify and propose partnerships
- Plan development and allocate internal and external resources
- Negotiate and manage partnerships
- Execute operational development activities including configuration analysis, key vendor selection, EPC contractor selection
- Apply tariff optimization techniques including yield, capital cost, and cost of capital optimization
- Build project documentation (origination memo, development memo, investment memo)
- Perform risk analysis and internal project reviews
- Present investment memos for approval
- Lead multifunctional team for successful proposal submission
- Sign off before commitment and lead final development activities
- Lead project team for financial closing and produce compliance memos
- Hand over to construction/integration teams
- Organize BD meetings, project reviews, and follow-up audits
- Ensure timely and adequate reporting
Experience & skills
- University degree in Economics, Finance or Engineering
- 7–10 years of experience in the Energy sector
- More than 3 years of business development experience in the utility sector working on large-scale projects and bids
- Fluent in English; knowledge of French and Arabic is a plus
- Strong knowledge of renewable power technologies including Solar, Wind, and Batteries
- Contract negotiation skills for EPC, PPA, SHA, CSA, and financing agreements
- Experience with environmental impact assessments and site permitting is an advantage
- Understanding of energy regulatory frameworks
- Knowledge of ENGIE’s group strategy, governance, and ethical rules
- Willingness to travel regularly within the Middle East and AMEA region
