Job description
GEMS Wesgreen International School, Sharjah, is hiring a Head of Department – Mathematics for the academic year 2025–2026. This is a key middle leadership role responsible for the strategic vision, leadership, and day-to-day management of the Mathematics Department. The role involves curriculum planning, resource allocation, teacher development, policy implementation, and ensuring high academic standards. The HOD will work closely with senior leaders to contribute to whole-school planning and performance management. This is a prime opportunity for both seasoned educators and those aspiring to grow into leadership roles within the GEMS Education global network.

Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Mathematics Department across all key stages.
- Develop and implement a strategic vision aligned with the school's ethos and educational goals.
- Ensure curriculum quality and effectiveness in line with British educational standards.
- Mentor and support mathematics teachers to improve teaching practices and student outcomes.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring academic excellence and well-being.
- Coordinate with senior leadership on whole-school planning and performance reviews.
- Manage departmental budgets, resources, and timetables.
- Ensure effective use of data to inform teaching, learning, and departmental improvement.
- Lead departmental meetings, staff development sessions, and community-based events.
- Promote and represent the Mathematics Department at school-wide functions and with external stakeholders.
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with PGCE / PGDE or B.Ed. in Mathematics.
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience with at least 2–3 years in a leadership role preferred.
- Track record of delivering outstanding teaching and learning outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of the British curriculum and assessment frameworks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Creative and enthusiastic approach to teaching and leadership.
- Willingness to contribute to extra-curricular and community events.
- Experience in an international school setting is advantageous.
