Job description
Aramco is seeking an Overhead Power Line Specialist to join the Technical Services Division under the Power Systems Projects & Technical Support Department. The Technical Services Division is responsible for providing and managing highly technical and specialized engineering services to support the safe and reliable operation of Saudi Aramco’s electrical transmission and distribution networks. The primary role involves providing specialized technical support in designs, standards, commissioning, maintenance, operation, and investigation to ensure safe and reliable power supply. The position includes providing technical expertise related to overhead power line design, construction, operation, and maintenance, performing reviews and validations of overhead line designs including sag and tension calculations, clearance requirements, conductor selection, structural loading, and utilizing specialized line design packages to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant standards. The specialist will assess designs to ensure compliance with company standards and national regulations for overhead distribution systems up to 230kV, provide technical guidance to operations teams on overhead line performance, maintenance planning, and troubleshooting while leveraging expertise to optimize line reliability and efficiency. The role also involves performing root cause analysis of overhead line failures, recommending corrective actions and design improvements to prevent future occurrences and enhance overall system performance. The specialist will support condition assessment, lifecycle management, maintenance optimization, and risk-based inspection strategies to ensure alignment with corporate standards, integrity, and longevity of overhead power lines. Additionally, the position includes providing consulting and technical guidance to internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders on overhead line design, construction practices, and safety protocols while promoting best practices and adherence to industry standards. The role also requires mentoring junior engineers and technical staff and supporting internal training or e-learning initiatives on overhead line design, reliability, and best practices. The candidate is expected to have experience in design, engineering, and lifecycle management of distribution and transmission systems, particularly in overhead power lines, preferably within oil and gas or utility sectors, supporting Saudi Aramco’s global-scale energy infrastructure and technical operations.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Provide specialized technical expertise and engineering support for overhead power line design, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and investigation activities, ensuring safe and reliable power supply while responding to assigned technical requests from operational and project teams and supporting the Technical Services Division in maintaining the integrity of electrical transmission and distribution networks
- Review and validate overhead power line engineering designs including sag and tension calculations, clearance requirements, conductor selection, structural loading, and application of specialized line design packages to verify engineering accuracy, technical feasibility, and compliance with company engineering standards and national electrical regulations for overhead distribution systems up to 230kV
- Assess overhead line system performance and provide technical guidance to operations teams by supporting maintenance planning, troubleshooting activities, reliability improvements, operational efficiency enhancements, and performance optimization initiatives for transmission and distribution overhead power line infrastructure
- Conduct root cause analysis of overhead line failures, equipment malfunctions, structural issues, and operational incidents, recommend corrective actions, propose engineering design improvements, and support implementation of mitigation strategies to prevent recurrence and improve overall system reliability
- Support condition assessment and lifecycle management of overhead transmission and distribution assets by applying maintenance optimization techniques and risk-based inspection strategies to ensure compliance with corporate standards, improve asset integrity, and extend service life of overhead power lines
- Provide consulting services and technical guidance to internal stakeholders, contractors, and engineering teams on overhead line design standards, construction methodologies, operational practices, maintenance strategies, and safety protocols while promoting adherence to industry standards and corporate engineering policies
- Participate in engineering reviews, technical evaluations, and project support activities for overhead power line projects, including design modifications, operational improvements, commissioning support, and troubleshooting during project execution and operational phases
- Mentor junior engineers and technical personnel by delivering technical knowledge transfer, supporting internal training programs and e-learning initiatives, and promoting best practices in overhead line engineering, reliability improvement, lifecycle management, and maintenance optimization
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering from a recognized and approved program, with preference for candidates possessing an advanced degree such as MSc and Professional Engineer certification including chartership or PE demonstrating advanced technical competency in overhead power line engineering
