Job description
The Release Manager (Consulting) at Cognizant is responsible for end-to-end management of release processes for changes, enhancements, and updates across enterprise systems such as SAP, Maximo, ServiceNow, Appian, and integration platforms. This role ensures smooth, timely, and compliant releases with minimal disruption to business operations, aligning with change management frameworks and quality standards. The Release Manager will plan, coordinate, and execute release activities, including pre-release reviews, go/no-go decisions, deployment, and post-release validation. Core responsibilities include identifying risks, developing mitigation strategies, coordinating with IT operations, cybersecurity, vendors, and business units, and ensuring releases meet defined quality and business requirements. The role involves facilitating release meetings, monitoring release performance across all phases, and implementing lessons learned to improve processes. The Release Manager will also define, measure, and report KPIs such as release frequency, success rates, lead times, rollback frequency, and change-related incidents. The position requires strong experience in SDLC, change management, enterprise systems, and release tools, along with proven ability to drive continuous improvement through process refinement and automation. A bachelor’s degree in software engineering, IT, or related field is required, with Scrum Master certification considered an advantage.

Key responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end release process from planning through deployment
- Coordinate release plans with project teams, business units, vendors, and system owners
- Conduct pre-release reviews, go/no-go decisions, and post-release validation
- Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies for release activities
- Oversee deployment processes including staging, testing, rollout, and rollback planning
- Serve as primary point of contact for all release-related communications
- Facilitate release meetings and communicate status, risks, and impacts to stakeholders
- Collaborate with IT operations, cybersecurity, and vendors for smooth releases
- Ensure releases meet business and quality standards before deployment
- Track and monitor performance across the release lifecycle
- Conduct post-release reviews and implement lessons learned
- Develop, improve, and automate release policies, processes, and templates
- Define, measure, and report release KPIs such as frequency, success/failure rates, and delays
- Analyze release performance data to identify bottlenecks and improvements
- Implement corrective actions and process enhancements to improve efficiency
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
- Have strong knowledge of SDLC, change management, and release processes
- Demonstrate experience with SAP systems, enterprise applications, and system integrations
- Be familiar with release/change management tools such as Jira
- Possess experience in managing complex release activities across multiple systems
- Hold a Scrum Master certification (preferred)
