Job description
Assists the Wellsite Leader in the supervision of well programs and builds on training and on-the-job exposure to develop skills related to becoming a Wellsite Leader. Responsibilities include ensuring safety and compliance with well operations, organizing and leading pre-job safety meetings, coordinating planning and logistics, checking and managing inventory, performing wellsite calculations, implementing contingency plans, preparing reports, training rig crews, and mentoring junior staff. The role demands leadership, operational foresight, and technical expertise in line with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities
- Assist in providing leadership in all aspects of health, safety and environmental (HSE) protection at the wellsite
- Ensure well operations are conducted safely and in compliance with approved programs and standards
- Organize and lead pre-job safety and operational meetings related to well operations
- Lead daily planning meetings with tool pushers, segment and third-party supervisors
- Attend daily planning calls and maintain look-ahead planners for resource requirements
- Check that equipment and services comply with contract terms
- Manage inventory of materials like cement, barite, bits, and rental equipment
- Ensure readiness of site equipment and issue timely Material Requests
- Prevent well control risks, stuck pipe, and drilling hazards through compliance with SOPs and checklists
- Issue Standing Instructions for Drillers and prepare detailed procedures for critical operations
- Perform wellsite calculations including cementing operations
- Ensure preparedness for well control events and stuck pipe scenarios
- Supervise critical rig floor activities such as casing landing, cementing, and testing
- Participate in performance discussions to improve efficiency and reduce downtime
- Implement contingency plans and prepare Standard Equipment Lists for each phase
- Prepare and communicate daily reports, cost estimates, and failure/incident documentation
- Participate in program changes and initiate Management of Change (MOC) procedures
- Mentor junior staff and assess rig crew readiness through regular drills
Experience & skills
- Minimum 5 years of oilfield drilling seniority in appropriate positions
- Experience relevant to the nature of the project
- Knowledge in wellsite operations, safety compliance, and emergency preparedness
- Competency in wellsite reporting, planning, and cost estimation
- Leadership and team development capabilities
- Mentorship experience and forward-looking problem solving skills
- Strong energy levels and stress management
