Job description
A major consumer and retail group needs a hands-on technology leader to build and scale a new in-house Buying, Planning & Sourcing platform from the ground up, and that greenfield mandate defines this role. You will own the technology strategy, architecture, and delivery of a platform that transforms how the business plans demand, manages suppliers, buys products, allocates stock, and supports merchandising decisions across multiple markets. Defining the engineering vision, architecture, and delivery roadmap comes first, turning manual and legacy business processes into scalable, intuitive internal digital products. Hands-on technical decision-making runs across architecture, code quality, engineering standards, and platform reliability, with Product, Design, Data, and business stakeholders all part of translating priorities into deliverable outcomes. Building and scaling a dedicated engineering organisation forms a core part of the mandate, drawing on existing capability while modern engineering practices such as cloud-native development, APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture, Kubernetes, DevOps, and CI/CD get driven across the function. Integration with Oracle ERP and the wider inventory, e-commerce, data, and operational systems needs to hold up reliably. Delivery governance, technical KPIs, security-by-design, observability, and operational resilience all get established as the platform matures. AI, automation, forecasting, and data-driven decision-making round out the areas where practical opportunities get identified and pursued.
