Job description
The Assistant Nurse - OBGYN is responsible for supporting the Womenâs Health Department at KCH by assisting in postpartum care for mothers and infants. This includes clinical and non-clinical support under the supervision of registered nurses and midwives. The role emphasizes breastfeeding assistance, newborn care, and patient education. The Assistant Nurse will help implement Baby Friendly practices, prepare and sterilize feeding equipment, and support the smooth journey of patients through their hospital stay. The role requires strict adherence to DHA guidelines and active involvement in continuous professional development.

Key responsibilities
- Support patients and their families as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, compassionate care
- Assist registered nurses with patient check-in, documentation, and education in lactation services
- Provide assistance with daily living activities for low acuity patients under RN/RM direction
- Support procedures such as Normal Baby Hearing Screening and CMV testing escalation
- Aid parents with baby care tasks including diaper changes, swaddling, feeding assistance, and skin-to-skin support
- Promote Baby Friendly Practices, assisting with breastfeeding positioning and motherâs comfort during feeding
- Assist with bottle preparation and feeding, cleaning and sterilizing feeding equipment
- Help with baby bathing and drying upon motherâs request
- Ensure compliance with DHA guidelines and clinical protocols
- Participate in audits, training, and continuous personal development activities
- Support stocktaking and restocking within Lactation Offices
- Maintain awareness of infection control, confidentiality, safeguarding, and health and safety protocols
Experience & skills
- UAE DHA Medical Health Authority License
- Diploma in Nursing with minimum 18 months duration
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a hospital or similar healthcare setting
- Certified in resuscitation as per specialty requirements
- Demonstrated ongoing CPD participation
- Computer proficiency
- Flexibility to adapt in changing environments
- Strong problem solving and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively across various staff levels and functions
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment
