Job description
The Engineer – Process Metallurgy (SMP) role supports all aspects of metallurgical testing, investigation, statistical analysis, and evaluation within the steelmaking environment. The position conducts in-depth reviews of the steelmaking process through Level 2 systems to identify deviations from standard procedures that could lead to casting defects. Responsibilities include regular review and analysis of operational data from steelmaking units such as Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Refining Furnace (LRF), and Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) to evaluate process efficiency, quality, and performance. The role analyzes failure details, performs root cause analysis, proposes engineering improvements, and follows up on implementation. The engineer contributes new ideas and technologies to enhance plant and process performance across quality, production, maintenance, and safety. The position is responsible for setting steel grade chemistries, optimizing mechanical properties through chemistry, rolling temperature, and cooling patterns, reviewing inspection plans and testing procedures, supporting new product development, and providing leadership to mechanical property testing and metallographic laboratories. The role delivers metallurgical and technical support to the steel melting shop and rolling mill, supports sales and marketing with technical input, manages metallographic laboratory budgets, evaluates new testing equipment and processes, resolves customer complaints through corrective and preventive actions, supports UAE National employee development programs, and assists with research initiatives for new processes, products, or quality improvements under the direction of the Metallurgy Manager.
