Job description
ABB is seeking a Lead ESD Engineer based in Dammam, Eastern Region, Saudi Arabia, reporting to the Local Service Operations Manager and contributing to AUEN Saudi Arabia. The role involves executing service work of medium to high complexity in accordance with work instructions and ABB guidelines while delivering excellent customer service to ensure customer satisfaction and retention. The position requires extensive hands-on expertise in ABB SG300/400 ESD system environments, including SG ESD system migration to HI800 and associated modernization activities. The Lead ESD Engineer is responsible for executing medium to low service projects in collaboration with the engineering team, including system expansions and modernization projects from design through site installation and commissioning. The role includes leading groups of engineers, coaching technicians and engineers, supervising complex site activities, and collaborating closely with the engineering manager and/or project manager to deliver projects. The engineer will work directly with customers on-site to identify opportunities within the installed base to improve system performance and operational performance, eliminate operational pain points, and identify new service business opportunities. Responsibilities also include performing field service tasks, identifying technical issues, conducting technical troubleshooting and process failure analysis through remote or on-site activities across service categories and products, preparing material lists required for service activities, ensuring all materials, parts and equipment are available and of appropriate quality, and requesting proactive corrective actions with recommendations to prevent recurrence of equipment or process failures. The role supports customer satisfaction by planning and executing service work as per customer order and expectations, effectively communicating service timelines, and ensuring superior customer experience. The work model is onsite/hybrid/remote, with primary accountability for site-based service delivery and project execution within ABB’s industrial automation and ESD system service portfolio.

- Execute service work of medium to high complexity in accordance with ABB guidelines and work instructions, ensuring compliance with customer orders, expectations, and service quality standards
- Plan and deliver service projects including system expansions and modernization projects from design through site installation and commissioning in collaboration with the engineering team
- Lead groups of engineers, coach technicians and engineers, and supervise complex site activities to ensure successful project delivery and technical excellence
- Perform field service tasks, conduct remote diagnostics and on-site technical troubleshooting, and carry out process failure analysis to identify technical issues across ABB SG300/400 ESD system environments
- Manage SG ESD system migration to HI800, ensuring accurate configuration, integration, testing and commissioning of upgraded ESD systems
- Prepare material lists required for service activities, verify availability and quality of materials, parts and equipment, and coordinate resources for timely project execution
- Identify opportunities within the installed base to improve system performance and operational performance, eliminate customer pain points, and generate new service business opportunities in coordination with ABB teams
- Request proactive corrective actions, provide technical recommendations to prevent recurrence of equipment or process failures, and communicate service timelines and expectations to ensure customer satisfaction and retention
Experience & skills
- Possess 10+ years of hands-on experience with ABB SG300/400 ESD system platforms including configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance and upgrades
- Demonstrate proven experience in SG ESD system migration to HI800 including execution of modernization and upgrade projects
- Show capability to execute medium to low service projects in collaboration with engineering teams covering design, site installation and commissioning phases
- Exhibit experience leading groups of engineers, supervising complex site activities, and collaborating with engineering managers and project managers for project delivery
- Demonstrate strong field service experience including remote diagnostics, on-site technical troubleshooting, process failure analysis, and implementation of corrective actions
- Prove ability to prepare detailed material lists, ensure availability and quality of materials, parts and equipment, and manage service logistics effectively
- Show experience working directly with customers on-site to identify operational improvement opportunities within the installed base and enhance system and operational performance
- Demonstrate ability to contribute to customer retention and superior customer experience through effective communication of service work timelines, expectations and project outcomes
