Job description
The Senior Design Draftsman is responsible for carrying out, supervising, and coordinating the provision of drawing and design services to support engineering, maintenance, and modification activities for Refining Operations plants and equipment within the oil and gas petrochemical sector. The role involves developing, managing, and maintaining comprehensive documentation control systems, including both electronic and hard copy records, covering design philosophies, engineering strategies, technical specifications, procedures, and documentation service frameworks. The position is accountable for managing the full Management of Change (MOC) process, including coordination of approvals, preparation of as-built drawings, technical data sheets, and associated engineering documentation required for refinery modifications and operational integrity. The role ensures that all drawings and design deliverables conform to approved engineering standards, specifications, and design requirements, maintaining accuracy, quality, and compliance with internationally recognized petrochemical industry codes of practice. The Senior Design Draftsman provides technical support in establishing company standards, drawing numbering systems, and documentation control procedures. The role includes reviewing, checking, and commenting on incoming engineering work from contractors and vendors, and coordinating with discipline engineers to ensure accuracy and compliance. Additionally, the position liaises with project engineers to ensure proper handover of final project deliverables, including as-built dossiers and technical drawings. The role requires strong exposure to electrical, instrumentation, and piping materials used in oil and gas refining and petrochemical facilities, along with advanced capability in AutoCAD, TDMS, EDMS, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and MS Project. The position operates within a drawing office environment of a major petrochemical design contracting organization and ensures effective documentation governance and engineering drawing management for refinery operations and modification projects.

Key responsibilities
- Carry out, supervise, and coordinate drawing and design services to support engineering, maintenance, and modification activities for refining operations plants and equipment in accordance with project and operational requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive documentation control systems including electronic and hard copy files, covering engineering philosophies, design strategies, specifications, procedures, and documentation frameworks.
- Manage Management of Change (MOC) processes including coordination of approvals, preparation of as-built drawings, technical data sheets, and related engineering documentation for refinery modifications.
- Ensure all engineering drawings and design outputs comply with approved standards, specifications, and petrochemical industry codes of practice while maintaining high accuracy and presentation quality.
- Provide and maintain company drawing standards, numbering systems, and documentation control procedures to ensure consistency and compliance across engineering deliverables.
- Review, check, and provide technical comments on incoming contractor and vendor drawings and documentation in coordination with discipline engineers to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Liaise with project engineers to ensure proper final handover of project deliverables, including as-built dossiers, engineering drawings, and associated technical documentation.
- Supervise drawing office activities and support continuous improvement of documentation management systems, ensuring effective integration of TDMS and EDMS platforms.
Experience & skills
- Apply 12 years of experience in design work within a drawing office of a major petrochemical design contracting organization, including at least 5 years in a supervisory drawing office role.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, MS Project, Technical Document Management System (TDMS), and Electronic Document Management System (EDMS).
- Exhibit good command of written and spoken English for technical communication, documentation, and coordination with engineering teams and stakeholders.
- Apply strong knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and piping materials used in oil and gas refining and petrochemical facilities.
- Demonstrate full familiarity with internationally recognized standards and codes of practice applicable to the petrochemical and oil and gas industry.
- Possess a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) as the required educational qualification.
- Exhibit strong capability in engineering drawing control, documentation management, and Management of Change (MOC) processes within refinery operations.
- Demonstrate supervisory capability in managing drawing office workflows, contractor coordination, and engineering documentation delivery.
