Job description
The Senior Specialist - Corrosion SME at AIQ will drive the development of advanced mechanistic corrosion models for internal corrosion in oil and gas systems. The role requires deep knowledge of electrochemical processes, CO₂ and H₂S corrosion, multiphase flow, and corrosion scale formation. Responsibilities include translating first-principles corrosion science into production-grade simulation code, refining electrochemical submodels, calibrating predictions against experimental data, and guiding the scientific roadmap for AIQ’s industrial AI platforms. This position bridges scientific expertise and software implementation, enabling high-fidelity predictive analytics for complex oil and gas pipelines.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Develop and extend mechanistic corrosion models for carbon steel in CO2, H2S, and mixed environments
- Refine electrochemical submodels based on mixed potential theory, anodic/cathodic reactions, and mass-transfer-limited kinetics
- Enhance aqueous chemistry treatments including speciation, buffering, and thermodynamic closure
- Advance models for FeCO3 and FeS scale formation, dissolution, and near-wall transport
- Support transient and spatially resolved corrosion simulations for wellbores and multiphase flow applications
- Calibrate and validate model predictions against experimental and published datasets
- Collaborate with software developers to implement models in Python or similar environments
- Define scientific roadmap, modeling priorities, and validation strategy for the AIQ corrosion platform
Experience & skills
- PhD or MSc in Corrosion Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Materials, or related field
- Deep expertise in mechanistic internal corrosion in oil and gas systems
- Strong knowledge of electrochemical corrosion processes, CO2/H2S corrosion of carbon steel
- Experience with mixed potential theory, reactive transport, aqueous speciation, corrosion scale modeling
- Background in multiphase flow and mass transfer in pipelines or wellbores
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar scientific computing languages
- Ability to translate scientific literature into robust, production-ready models
- Strong numerical modeling and physical chemistry skills
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration with cross-functional software teams
