Job description
The Lead Electrical Designer (EOI) at Wood Abu Dhabi is responsible for leading electrical design efforts for offshore FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) projects within the oil and gas sector. This role requires an experienced professional capable of managing complex upstream electrical design activities, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, and coordinating effectively across multidisciplinary teams. The position involves working under the supervision of the Lead Design or Design Engineer to deliver design documentation, adapt engineering solutions to project requirements, and ensure technical accuracy in drawings and specifications. The designer will be responsible for applying standard engineering techniques and modifying them to solve technical issues that arise during design execution. Key aspects of the role include creating and reviewing electrical system designs, producing accurate product and technical documentation, participating in formal and informal design reviews, and providing timely reports and updates to management. The candidate will support offshore and onshore project delivery, ensuring that production documentation meets project timelines and quality objectives. The role is part of Woodâs Oil, Gas & New Energies business, which focuses on upstream and midstream projects, decarbonization, and electrification initiatives. The ideal candidate should have a proven record of delivering large and complex offshore projects, possess deep understanding of upstream FEED requirements, and demonstrate proficiency in engineering design systems and project coordination.

Key responsibilities
- Lead and execute electrical design activities for offshore FEED and upstream projects
- Work under the supervision of the Lead Design Engineer to meet project objectives and technical standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver competitive and feasible design solutions
- Apply standard engineering techniques and modify them to resolve technical challenges
- Participate in formal and informal design reviews to ensure design compliance and quality
- Prepare and maintain detailed product information and technical documentation for qualification and production
- Report project status, progress, and issues to management to enable timely actions
- Ensure designs meet project specifications, schedules, and cost constraints
- Support engineering change management processes and document revisions
- Contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable electrical solutions for offshore and onshore applications
Experience & skills
- Minimum Diploma in Electrical Engineering
- At least 12 years of total experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a similar Lead Electrical Designer role
- Proven experience in oil and gas offshore FEED projects
- Strong understanding of upstream design processes and multidisciplinary coordination
- Ability to develop, review, and finalize electrical design documentation
- Experience working in global engineering environments on large-scale projects
- Familiarity with industry standards, design codes, and safety regulations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to engineering challenges
- Excellent organizational and reporting abilities
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse engineering disciplines to achieve project objectives
