Job description
The Assistant Manager of Indirect Tax (VAT Compliance & Advisory) is responsible for managing and overseeing VAT compliance processes, including preparation and review of VAT returns to ensure accuracy and timeliness for clients in Oman. The role involves providing advanced VAT advisory services through interpretation of VAT laws, regulations, and guidelines relevant to Oman VAT laws and GCC VAT regulations. The position leads VAT implementation projects, including the design and set-up of VAT processes and systems, and supports clients during VAT audits and queries from the Oman Tax Authority. Responsibilities include conducting VAT risk assessments, identifying potential liabilities, and recommending process improvements, as well as preparing VAT-related reports and project documentation for client delivery. The role requires maintaining up-to-date knowledge of local and GCC VAT developments and providing insights to clients and internal teams. It also involves supporting business development through proposals, presentations, and thought leadership, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to advise on VAT implications for transactions. The position requires strong proficiency in MS Office applications and familiarity with tax software, alongside expertise in indirect tax, regulatory compliance, accounting, and finance.

- Provide advanced VAT advisory services by interpreting VAT laws, regulations, and guidelines relevant to Oman and GCC VAT frameworks
- Lead VAT implementation projects including design and setup of VAT processes and systems for clients
- Assist clients with VAT audits and respond to queries from the Oman Tax Authority ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
- Conduct VAT risk assessments and recommend process improvements to mitigate potential tax liabilities
- Prepare VAT-related reports and project documentation for client delivery and compliance tracking
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Oman VAT laws and GCC VAT regulations and provide insights to clients and internal teams
- Support business development activities including proposals, presentations, and thought leadership contributions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advise on VAT implications for various transactions
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field
- Possess a professional qualification such as CA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent as preferred
- Demonstrate 6–8 years of experience in VAT or indirect tax preferably within a consulting environment
- Exhibit strong knowledge of Oman VAT laws and GCC VAT regulations with proven VAT compliance and advisory project experience
- Demonstrate experience in VAT implementation, VAT audits, VAT risk assessment, and VAT reporting processes
- Show proficiency in MS Office applications and experience with tax software as an advantage
- Demonstrate ability to work independently while leading junior team members and managing multiple deliverables
- Exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities in regulatory compliance and indirect tax contexts
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills in English with Arabic as an advantage
