Job description
Fractured carbonates, high-H₂S sour gas and lost circulation are the kind of formation problems this Senior Fluids Engineer designs around at Crescent Petroleum in Sharjah. Fluids sections of the Basis of Design (BoD), detailed Drilling Fluids Programs (DFP) and Recommended Practices (RP) are yours to own across exploration, appraisal and development wells. System choices cover inhibitive shale fluids, underbalanced or managed-pressure applications, scavengers, bridging and LCM strategies. Drilling, Completions and Well Testing engineers are close partners, and DWOP and CWOP sessions are part of the planning cycle. Contractors for drilling fluids, solids control and waste management are tendered, audited and reviewed through Quarterly Performance Reviews (QPR) under your direction. Daily drilling reports and fluids parameters are checked against the program, and well cost tracking is kept current as a cross-check on Contractor invoices. HSE runs through everything, from rig-side risk assessments to environmental compliance, pit remediation and site restoration. Lessons learned go into the End of Well Report (EOWR) and feed future programs. Candidates need 12 to 15 years of progressive fluids experience, including at least 5 at senior, coordinating or managerial level, and sour-gas carbonate experience in the Middle East or Kurdistan Region of Iraq is highly advantageous.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and own the fluids sections of BoD documents, detailed Drilling Fluids Programs and Recommended Practices for all well types
- Design fluid systems for H₂S management, losses in fractured carbonates, shale inhibition, underbalanced or managed-pressure applications and LCM strategies
- Collaborate with Drilling, Completions and Well Testing engineers to keep fluids programs feasible and aligned with well objectives
- Participate in Company DWOP and CWOP sessions
- Write contingency plans and Management of Change documents when operational changes are needed
- Compile tenders and evaluate Contractors for drilling fluids, solids control and waste management services
- Specify fluids-related equipment and services to Company and industry standards
- Coach Company and Contractor rig-site fluids engineers with technical support
- Monitor daily drilling reports and critical fluids parameters to keep properties within programmed boundaries
- Report fluids-related issues promptly to the Drilling Superintendent and Well Engineers
- Audit Contractor personnel, equipment and base facilities and interview proposed Contractor staff
- Moderate Contractor Quarterly Performance Reviews
- Deliver the fluids section of the End of Well Report and capture lessons learned for future programs
- Track daily well and fluids costs as a cross-check against Contractor monthly invoices
- Review Contractor HSE systems and lead rig-side risk assessments for fluids, solids control and waste activities
- Reduce cost and improve drilling conditions through material optimization, inventory management and waste reduction
- Support cost estimates, Bills of Quantities and commercial evaluations for fluids and DWM scopes
- Develop internal digital tools, templates, databases and dashboards for fluids engineering
