Job description
The Director of Islamic Origination at Standard Chartered Bank is responsible for managing origination activities of Islamic corporate and investment banking (CIB) products in KSA and designated GCC markets. This role is aligned with the bank's global Islamic banking strategy, focusing on enhancing the Saadiq CIB product portfolio, developing innovative and Shariah-compliant financial solutions, and achieving business KPIs. The position includes proactive business development, market and competitor analysis, and fostering external partnerships. It requires strict adherence to internal governance, operational risk policies, and regulatory and Shariah compliance. The role involves collaboration with global and regional stakeholders including CIB corporate teams, Shariah committees, regulators, and internal support functions such as Legal, Operations, and Transaction Banking. The incumbent also plays a critical role in embedding governance, implementing the Shariah Governance Framework, and maintaining relationships with industry associations and internal control forums.

Key responsibilities
- Work with the Islamic Origination team to align business efforts with the Global Islamic Banking strategy
- Achieve financial and non-financial KPIs for Saadiq Islamic banking
- Monitor and report on business performance to support productivity and growth
- Develop campaigns to enhance Saadiq product brand awareness and sales
- Improve solutions and value propositions of Saadiq CIB products
- Establish partnerships and alliances for Saadiq offerings
- Track and counter competitor activities with innovative, Shariah-compliant products
- Adhere to governance and risk frameworks including ERM and ORF
- Report to and engage with senior management and regulators on Islamic Banking performance
- Ensure compliance with Shariah governance and regulatory frameworks
- Coordinate with stakeholders including corporate teams, product groups, Shariah committees, regulators, and support teams
- Embed SCBās values and branding across Saadiq markets
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Experience & skills
- Bachelorās degree
- Experience in banking and finance, preferably Islamic, across Corporate & Institutional Banking
- Strong network and market knowledge within KSA and GCC
- Proven experience in product origination and client engagement
- Understanding of Islamic finance products and Shariah principles
- Training as required by the bank, industry, and regulators
- Fluency in English; Arabic is a plus
- Competencies in customer focus, collaboration, managing ambiguity, strategic mindset, and trust-building
