Job description
Indirect Tax Consultant role within EY MENA Indirect Tax practice based in Abu Dhabi responsible for advising clients on VAT treatment of new and complex transactions and assisting in resolving classification disputes and indirect tax issues with authorities. The position operates within a global network of professional advisors and involves collaborating with VAT professionals across jurisdictions to provide cross-border transaction support across multiple industries. The role includes preparing client reports and schedules, maintaining productive relationships with client personnel, and building strong internal relationships across the VAT practice, Indirect Tax teams, and other service lines. The consultant is expected to develop deep understanding of Customs Law and its application across multiple countries, apply regional Free Trade Agreements, and interpret customs concepts including valuation, classification, and origin. Responsibilities include identifying VAT considerations related to outbound investments, engaging with overseas offices to deliver VAT advice across global jurisdictions, supporting preparation for VAT introduction in various countries, and providing indirect tax expertise for audit and transaction projects. The role also involves risk identification, project management, budget monitoring, planning and prioritisation of workloads, and supporting global tax advisory services in a dynamic, cross-border professional services environment.

Key responsibilities
- Advise clients on VAT treatment of new and complex transactions and resolve classification disputes with authorities
- Collaborate with global VAT professionals to deliver cross-border indirect tax advisory services
- Prepare reports, schedules, and documentation for clients and internal stakeholders
- Develop understanding of Customs Law and apply regional Free Trade Agreements and customs concepts including valuation, classification, and origin
- Identify VAT considerations for outbound investments and provide cross-border tax advisory support
- Engage with overseas offices to deliver VAT advice across multiple jurisdictions
- Support indirect tax audit and transaction projects and assist in VAT implementation readiness across countries
Experience & skills
- Hold degree in economics, finance, tax or accounting
- Possess at least one year of experience as an Indirect Tax professional
- Demonstrate experience in VAT advisory, GST advisory, or customs duty advisory
- Show experience working in Big 4 accounting firm, law firm, or relevant industry environment
- Demonstrate understanding of Customs Law, Free Trade Agreements, and indirect tax frameworks
- Exhibit project management capability including planning, prioritisation, and budget monitoring
- Demonstrate risk identification and review capability in indirect tax engagements
- Possess strong written and oral English communication skills
