Job description
As a data scientist on the algorithms track at talabat, your mission will be to improve the quality of decisions made across product and business via relevant, reliable, and actionable data. You will own a particular domain across product and business and work closely with corresponding managers as part of a talented team. The role involves leveraging Generative AI for data enrichment, smart content understanding, and automated decision-making to enhance user experiences and business operations.

Key responsibilities
- Leveraging ambiguous business problems as opportunities to drive objective criteria using data.
- Solving complex business problems using the simplest, most appropriate algorithms to deliver business value.
- Designing and implementing effective and impactful machine learning and generative AI systems in production.
- Developing a deep understanding of the product experiences and business processes in focus.
- Developing deep familiarity with source data and generating systems through documentation, engineering collaboration, and data profiling.
- Contributing to design and maintenance of data models for performance measurement and analysis.
- Working with product and business teams to identify important data-driven questions.
- Delivering insights and recommendations through analysis and automated reports.
- Designing, planning, and analyzing A/B and multivariate experiments.
- Supporting KPI design and goal setting for product and business managers.
- Mentoring other data scientists.
- Contributing to tooling, internal training, and ways of working improvements.
Experience & skills
- Experience in machine learning, generative AI, deep learning, recommendation systems, pattern recognition, data mining, and artificial intelligence.
- Experience with ML and GenAI frameworks (e.g. Scikit-learn, XGBoost, LightGBM, CatBoost, SVMs, Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, LLM fine-tuning).
- Excellent SQL skills.
- Competence with reproducible data analysis using Python or R.
- Familiarity with data modeling and dimensional design.
- Strong command over the entire data lifecycle including problem formulation and analysis.
- Experience with various analysis techniques (descriptive, exploratory, inferential, causal, predictive).
- Deep understanding of experiment design and statistical techniques.
- Familiarity with product data and health metrics (conversion, retention, engagement).
- LLMs and NLP experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with BigQuery and GCP is a plus.
- Experience in data engineering and pipelines (e.g. Airflow) is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. Postgraduate degree is a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in data science, ML, and Gen AI.
- Experience in online consumer product settings is a plus.
