Job description
British International School Riyadh needs a Lead Counsellor to build and run its whole-school counselling service at the Al Hamra Campus. Founded in 1979 and accredited by the Council of International Schools and as a British School Overseas, BISR follows the English curriculum for students aged 3 to 18 across multiple campuses. You'll start as the sole on-site counsellor, delivering counselling support directly to students while holding responsibility for counselling systems, ethical practice and quality assurance within the Student Support Services framework. Safeguarding, Support for Learning, nursing and pastoral colleagues all work alongside this role in a genuinely multidisciplinary team. Professional collaboration extends across the wider BISR group too, with shared practice, supervision and professional dialogue among counsellor colleagues at other campuses. Beyond responsive counselling, the role covers proactive and preventative wellbeing work, including advising teachers and tutors and supporting transition and onboarding for new students and families. Whole-school wellbeing initiatives, such as buddy or mentoring programmes, also fall within scope, developed alongside colleagues rather than in isolation. This work is collaborative and system-focused, complementing pastoral provision rather than replacing it.
