Job description
The Senior Civil Engineer role at Wood involves leading civil design and engineering activities for large-scale gas processing projects, ensuring compliance with client standards, safety, and quality procedures. This position is based in Abu Dhabi and supports Woodâs Oil, Gas & New Energies business, delivering innovative and integrated solutions across onshore, offshore, and decarbonization markets. The engineer will oversee design execution, supervise assigned engineers, and maintain project integrity within defined budget and schedule. The position requires deep technical knowledge in structural design, pipe rack studies, and instrumentation systems, as well as familiarity with civil software tools and engineering standards. Responsibilities also include reviewing and approving technical documentation such as P&IDs, PSFS, DPTDs, and safety-related calculations, and contributing to HAZOP, SIL, and flare system design reviews. The role demands strong project coordination, change management, and mentorship capabilities, ensuring project deliverables align with organizational goals while mentoring junior engineers. The ideal candidate will bring at least 10 years of experience, a background in civil and structural design, and the ability to engage in complex technical discussions, manage multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to transformative energy projects under tight deadlines.

Key responsibilities
- Undertake civil design work for gas processing units and supervise assigned engineers
- Execute civil engineering activities within budget, schedule, and technical specifications
- Ensure design methods, standards, and data conform with client and project requirements
- Review and approve civil documentation including diagrams, specifications, and structural descriptions
- Oversee dynamic simulation, transient, surge, and MDMT studies, ensuring technical accuracy
- Review and approve depressurization studies, flare load estimation, and flare system designs
- Participate in HAZOP, SIL, and other safety reviews, providing technical input and ensuring compliance
- Identify and implement new methodologies to increase productivity and engineering efficiency
- Coordinate with suppliers, review quotations, and ensure adherence to project confidentiality agreements
- Engage in client and technical meetings to resolve design and project issues
- Mentor and train junior engineers, promoting skill development and technical excellence
- Assist in project planning, scheduling, and weekly progress reporting
- Contribute to the development of pre-commissioning and commissioning procedures and manuals
- Support proposal development through manhour estimation and scheduling inputs
- Ensure environmental, health, safety, and quality assurance standards are consistently followed
Experience & skills
- Bachelorâs degree in Engineering or related discipline
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in civil engineering, preferably in gas processing or energy projects
- Strong background in structural design and pipe rack studies
- Proficiency in civil and structural engineering software and instrumentation systems
- Experience with HAZOP, SIL, dynamic simulation, transient, and surge studies
- Understanding of MDMT, depressurization, and flare system design principles
- Knowledge of project planning, cost estimation, and scheduling practices
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for engaging with clients and senior leadership
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
- Strong understanding of change management principles and ability to drive adoption across teams
