Job description
The Material Engineer – Technical Evaluation is responsible for performing, supervising, monitoring, and controlling engineering and supply chain activities related to the technical evaluation of materials used within industrial operations, particularly in the Oil & Gas sector. The role ensures the integrity, compliance, and technical suitability of materials stocked and procured by applying engineering expertise, reviewing technical specifications, and verifying engineering documentation. The position requires extensive involvement in reviewing technical specifications, engineering drawings, procurement documentation, and identifying technically compliant alternative solutions while ensuring alignment with company standards and statutory regulations. The engineer evaluates engineering and procurement documentation including Equipment drawings, Piping drawings, P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and Plot plans to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with operational requirements and applicable industry codes. The role also requires participation in the preparation, development, and review of equipment material requisitions and material descriptions while applying cataloguing techniques and cataloguing structures designed to support material standardization and variety reduction within the organization’s supply chain. The position requires strong familiarity with international engineering and safety standards including API, ASME, ISA, NEMA, IEEE, IEC, NFPA, BASEEFA, ATEX, ANSI, ASTM, TEMA, BS and other applicable statutory regulations governing industrial equipment and materials used in oil and gas facilities. The engineer must ensure that all evaluated materials and engineering documentation comply with company specifications, codes, and regulatory frameworks. Additionally, the role requires extensive exposure to reviewing, finalizing, and approving procurement and construction drawings related to equipment installations and piping systems. The position supports supply chain and maintenance functions by ensuring technically compliant material selection, supporting procurement decisions through engineering validation, and maintaining the integrity and accuracy of material data stored within enterprise systems. The role requires strong proficiency in ERP software systems and Microsoft Office tools to manage documentation, technical evaluations, and engineering records effectively while supporting organizational material management processes.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Perform and supervise technical evaluation activities for materials and engineering documentation by reviewing technical specifications, verifying engineering drawings, and ensuring that all materials meet operational, engineering, and regulatory requirements prior to procurement or stocking.
- Monitor and control the integrity of stocked materials by validating compliance with technical standards, engineering requirements, and company specifications to ensure suitability for operational use within industrial and oil and gas environments.
- Review, analyze, finalize, and approve engineering and procurement documentation including Equipment drawings, Piping drawings, P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and Plot plans to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with applicable engineering standards.
- Identify and evaluate technically acceptable alternative solutions for materials or equipment when required, ensuring compatibility with existing engineering systems, company specifications, and operational performance requirements.
- Develop and prepare equipment material requisitions and detailed material descriptions by applying engineering evaluation processes and cataloguing techniques designed to support material standardization and reduce unnecessary variety within the supply chain.
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of international engineering standards and regulatory frameworks including API, ASME, ISA, NEMA, IEEE, IEC, NFPA, BASEEFA, ATEX, ANSI, ASTM, TEMA, BS and related statutory regulations during technical evaluations and engineering reviews.
- Utilize ERP software systems and MS Office tools to document engineering evaluations, maintain material records, support supply chain processes, and ensure accurate technical data management within the organization’s material management systems.
- Coordinate with supply chain, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure technical compliance of materials, support procurement processes through engineering validation, and maintain consistency between engineering requirements and stocked material inventory.
Experience & skills
- Hold a degree in a relevant Engineering discipline providing foundational knowledge in engineering design, industrial equipment, materials engineering, and technical evaluation practices applicable to oil and gas operations.
- Possess at least eight years of professional experience in supply chain or maintenance environments, preferably within the Oil & Gas industry, involving engineering evaluation, technical specification review, and material management responsibilities.
- Demonstrate a minimum of five years of supervisory or oversight experience involving the coordination, supervision, or monitoring of engineering evaluation activities and supply chain technical validation processes.
- Possess strong expertise in engineering design principles and technical evaluation processes including review and interpretation of engineering drawings, procurement documentation, and equipment technical specifications.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of international engineering and safety standards including API, ASME, ISA, NEMA, IEEE, IEC, NFPA, BASEEFA, ATEX, ANSI, ASTM, TEMA, BS and related statutory regulations governing industrial equipment and materials.
- Demonstrate experience in reviewing, finalizing, and approving procurement and construction drawings related to Equipment installations, Piping systems, P&ID diagrams, and Plot plans within industrial or oil and gas facilities.
- Demonstrate experience developing equipment material requisitions and technical material descriptions using cataloguing techniques and structured cataloguing systems aimed at achieving material standardization and variety reduction.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using ERP software systems and MS Office tools for managing engineering documentation, technical evaluation records, and supply chain data within enterprise material management environments.
