Job description
The Compliance Specialist - Engineering (Quick Commerce) role at Amazon (Q-Express Documents Transport) in Dubai is responsible for managing end-to-end regulatory compliance for Amazon Now facilities and operations across the UAE. This position focuses on ensuring full adherence to municipal, civil defense, and service provider requirements for obtaining and maintaining licenses and permits. The role involves extensive liaison with government authorities, including Economic Departments, Municipalities, and Civil Defense, to expedite approvals and resolve compliance-related issues efficiently. The incumbent will track, monitor, and report the status of all compliance permits, ensuring timely renewals and resolution of any escalations. They will also contribute to optimizing the compliance renewal process through digitalization, standardization, and process improvement initiatives. A core component of this role includes stakeholder management, working closely with consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal business teams to ensure regulatory readiness for new launches and ongoing operations. The Compliance Specialist will also support regional collaboration across AMET markets and ensure leadership visibility on compliance performance. This role requires 40% domestic travel and fluency in Arabic and English, with a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks in the UAE.

- Assist the compliance lead in managing Amazon Now building and operational compliance in line with authority requirements.
- Liaise with government bodies such as the Economic Department, Municipalities, Civil Defense, and service providers to secure licenses and permits within defined timelines.
- Track, monitor, and report permit and license status updates to business leaders and ensure timely renewals.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth and timely regulatory approvals.
- Handle escalation management for delayed or high-priority permit requests.
- Contribute to the optimization, digitalization, and standardization of the permit renewal process across UAE operations.
- Support compliance for new business setups and launches, ensuring readiness and documentation compliance with local authorities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the AMET region to align on compliance strategies and best practices.
- Prepare reports and dashboards summarizing permit status, compliance gaps, and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure all compliance activities are completed in accordance with Amazon’s operational standards and UAE regulatory frameworks.
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working directly with government authorities and regulatory bodies.
- Experience in negotiating and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to solve problems and deliver results under time constraints.
- Native Arabic speaker with fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Knowledge of UAE regulatory processes related to municipalities, civil defense, and service providers.
- Experience managing licensing and permit activities for operations or facilities.
- Strong organizational and tracking skills for monitoring compliance and reporting progress.
- Ability to travel up to 40% within the UAE for regulatory coordination.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective stakeholder and authority management.
