Job description
The Director - Structural and Civil-Stations, based on-site in Riyadh within the City Transport BU, is responsible for all Structural and Civil elements of the Grand Central Station (GCS) and related TBU projects from pre-concept through detailed design and delivery, ensuring designs reflect the architectural vision while remaining constructable and resilient. The role emphasizes design excellence, human-centered design, exceptional customer experience, and intuitive wayfinding, with extensive experience in large, complex train and metro station design and development. The Director provides technical support to deliver assets that meet cost and program requirements, celebrates the natural landscape, ecology, and landforms of Qiddiya, and coordinates with external stakeholders and internal teams to embed their requirements at each design stage. Core scope includes leading structural design domains such as blast, earthquake, resilience, durability, and civil interfaces; developing design briefs and contract documentation aligned to procurement strategy; managing consultants to program and quality; reviewing digital models, drawings, and design information and securing timely stakeholder reviews and comments; managing design change and instructions; interfacing with Program, Construction, and Delivery Teams on program, budget, and quality; navigating governance, permitting, and approvals; assessing material suitability for vision/specifications, durability, and performance; preparing documentation for regular design progress reports; and assisting in as-built drawings and O&M manual preparation. The position requires strong knowledge of building codes, regulations, sustainability practices, experience with design software and tools, adept reading of drawings/specifications/digital models, and the ability to deliver design presentations to large and VIP audiences.

Key responsibilities
- Support the Technical Project Director to lead and manage the design process, ensuring alignment with project goals, regulatory standards, and design excellence
- Become familiar with Qiddiya design standards, project objectives, and vision and ensure adherence throughout structural and civil design
- Support development of project requirements for all Structural and Civil aspects to maintain budget alignment as design develops
- Develop design briefs and contract documentation to support the project procurement strategy and goals
- Oversee all aspects of structural design, including blast, earthquake, resilience, durability and civil interfaces, coordinating with specialist disciplines
- Manage the design process with project consultants to ensure conformity to stated project objectives and required levels of detailing and quality at each stage
- Build strong collaborative relationships with external stakeholders and internal departments to manage interfaces and secure timely inputs
- Manage design consultants to produce information to program and attend regular progress meetings, including undertaking regular foreign travel as required
- Support implementation of sustainability and health and safety initiatives within the design scope
- Review digital models, drawings and design information, ensuring timely stakeholder and internal reviews and appropriate comments
- Manage design changes and instructions related to Structural and Civil discipline
- Liaise with Program, Construction and Delivery Teams to understand programs, budgets and quality issues and align design deliverables
- Coordinate the end-to-end design process through construction and operations, including stage deliverable expectations, governance, permitting and approvals
- Manage consultant and contractor performance and progress meetings, producing timely minutes and actions
- Assess material suitability within designs for conformity to vision, specifications, durability and performance objectives
- Prepare documentation for regular design progress reports to the Project Executive and other stakeholders
- Assist in managing production of as-built drawings and preparation of O&M manuals
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in design management, specifically managing infrastructure projects and complex train/metro stations
- Understanding of structures for large complex roofs; high-speed rail experience beneficial
- Strong track record in developing high-performing stations with focus on customer experience and innovative design solutions
- Adept at reading drawings, specifications and digital models
- Strong English skills (spoken and written); Arabic desirable but not mandatory
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to deliver design presentations to large groups and VIP audiences
- Experience with design software and tools
- Ability to work with diverse teams and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of building codes, regulations, and sustainability practices
- Demonstrated leadership skills to set clear goals, motivate teams and produce results
