Job description
The Area Superintendent / Maintenance Head (Refinery Maintenance Operations) role at KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia is responsible for overseeing daily refinery maintenance activities including corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, and predictive maintenance across mechanical, instrumentation and electrical (I/E), and rotating equipment to ensure sector availability, reliability, and operational continuity. KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions provides holistic asset lifecycle solutions including licensed process technologies, advisory services, technical domain expertise, energy transition solutions, high-end design capabilities, and smart solutions to optimize operational assets. The Area Superintendent / Maintenance Head is responsible for managing overall department functions including welding and fabrication shop, scaffolding and insulation workshop, and heavy lift and rigging division, ensuring all maintenance activities comply with safety, environmental, and quality rules. The role includes developing maintenance strategies, preparing and optimizing preventive maintenance schedules, minimizing breakdowns through effective monitoring, managing resources, equipment, and machinery deployment, and coordinating with internal departments, external workshops, and OEM dealers for repairs and spare parts. The position requires managing emergency responses, reviewing work plans and job priorities, monitoring maintenance workflow and procedures, tracking KPIs, and preparing daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance performance reports. The Area Superintendent ensures compliance with HSE standards, conducts regular safety audits, schedules technical and safety training, and manages maintenance contracts and refinery equipment operations. The role requires strong leadership in refinery maintenance operations, ability to work in multicultural environments, and strategic planning to maintain operational efficiency and asset reliability.

Key responsibilities
- Manage and lead overall maintenance department functions including mechanical, instrumentation and electrical (I/E), and rotating equipment maintenance activities ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards
- Develop and implement maintenance goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities while ensuring refinery operational availability and reliability
- Prepare, optimize, and track preventive maintenance (PM) schedules, minimize breakdowns, and monitor maintenance programs to ensure continuous equipment availability
- Manage day-to-day activities of welding and fabrication shop, scaffolding and insulation workshop, and heavy lift and rigging division including planned and unplanned equipment repairs
- Allocate resources, equipment, and machinery to sites for routine operations and emergency maintenance situations while ensuring operational readiness
- Review work plans, job requests, priorities, and maintenance workflows, coordinate with teams to identify gaps, and resolve operational issues
- Coordinate with internal departments, external workshops, and OEM dealers for repairs, spare parts, and technical support while ensuring maintenance schedule compliance
- Conduct safety audits, manage HSE compliance, review maintenance performance reports, track KPIs, and respond to emergencies including incident and accident reporting
Experience & skills
- Possess Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with strong knowledge of refinery operations and maintenance
- Demonstrate 12+ years of refinery plant experience including maintenance engineering and operational leadership
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of refinery equipment, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and corrective maintenance practices
- Demonstrate experience piloting maintenance contracts and coordinating with OEM vendors and external workshops
- Demonstrate knowledge of safety rules, HSE standards, and ability to conduct safety audits and compliance monitoring
- Demonstrate leadership experience managing large maintenance teams and multi-functional workshops including welding, scaffolding, and rigging
- Demonstrate ability to manage KPIs, maintenance performance metrics, and operational reporting including daily, weekly, and monthly reports
- Demonstrate ability to work in multicultural environments, resolve problems under pressure, and implement strategic maintenance improvements
