Job description
Wood is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to support large-scale Gas Processing projects for high-profile clients within the Oil, Gas & New Energies sector in Abu Dhabi. The role involves delivering technically robust process engineering solutions across upstream, midstream, onshore, offshore, gas-to-liquids, and energy transition projects, ensuring compliance with client specifications, international standards, safety requirements, and quality procedures. The position requires ownership of process design activities, review and approval of engineering deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, Process Safeguarding Flow Schemes, Design Pressure and Temperature Diagrams, equipment and instrument specifications, process descriptions, cause and effect charts, and safety-related calculations. The role includes review and approval of dynamic simulations, transient and surge studies, MDMT studies, depressurization and flare load calculations, and flare system design, while contributing to HAZOP, SIL, and other safety reviews. The Senior Process Engineer works across multi-discipline and multi-project environments, interfaces with clients, licensors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, supports proposals, commissioning activities, and mentoring of junior engineers, and contributes to delivering large, complex oil and gas and petrochemical projects within the GCC region and globally.

Key responsibilities
- Undertake detailed process design activities for assigned units and supervise and check work performed by assigned engineers
- Execute process engineering activities within approved budget and schedule while maintaining technical integrity of the design
- Ensure design methods, standards, and engineering data comply with client and project requirements
- Check and approve basis of design documents, process calculations, and safety-related calculations
- Review and approve Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, PSFS, DPTDs, equipment and instrument specifications, process descriptions, and cause and effect charts
- Review and approve dynamic simulation studies, transient studies, surge studies, and MDMT studies
- Review and approve depressurization studies, flare load estimation, and flare system design
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality assurance procedures throughout the project lifecycle
- Provide input to and support HAZOP, SIL, and other process safety reviews
- Identify opportunities for improved methodologies and productivity enhancements in work processes
- Review supplier quotations and contribute to technical and commercial evaluations as required
- Ensure compliance with licensor secrecy agreements and confidentiality requirements
- Participate in technical meetings and interface directly with client engineering teams
- Identify technical or execution issues impacting project progress and report to project and discipline management
- Mentor, train, and support the development of junior process engineers
- Support project planning, scheduling, weekly reporting, and proposal manhour estimation activities
- Assist with preparation of pre-commissioning procedures, commissioning procedures, and operating manuals
Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university
- Possess a minimum of 10+ years of experience in the offshore or onshore Oil & Gas industry
- Have at least 5 years of experience in a similar senior process engineering role on mega Oil & Gas or Petrochemical projects
- Demonstrate proficiency and subject matter expertise in process simulation tools including HYSYS, Flare System Analyzer, PipeNet, Pipesim, and OLGA
- Exhibit experience across all engineering and design phases within multi-discipline and multi-project environments
- Show prior experience working in the GCC or Middle East region, preferably on large-scale energy projects
