Job description
Zurichâs Commercial Insurance Middle East is hiring an Underwriter - Onshore Energy (req 127740) based in ZIC DIFC, AE - Dubai to analyze and underwrite new and renewal business for Energy lines of businessâparticularly Onshoreâusing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework and Underwriting Guidelines. The role independently assesses and prices medium complexity risks, sets and negotiates terms and conditions, and closes deals within a moderate Underwriting Authority while seeking empowerment from higher proficiency Case Underwriters when required with clear rationale. The underwriter performs account servicing, prepares documentation, updates systems, and understands how assigned accounts align with broader Underwriting strategy. Frequent engagement with distributors (brokers) during the underwriting process is required, proactively seeking new business opportunities, anticipating customer needs, and resolving a range of customer or broker queries. Qualifications include a Bachelorâs Degree or Equivalent, a minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience with exposure to Energy linesâparticularly Onshoreâan existing network of brokers in the Middle East and surrounding international markets, and a solid understanding of Treaty Reinsurance Protection and Facultative Reinsurance. The role requires knowledge of underwriting guidelines, philosophy, techniques, and national/local filing regulations; the ability to effectively assess risk and provide risk insights; awareness of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business; and proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital literacy.

Experience & skills
- Hold a Bachelorâs Degree or Equivalent
- Bring a minimum of 5 years of experience in Underwriting with exposure to Energy lines of business, particularly Onshore
- Demonstrate a developed, existing network of brokers in the Middle East and surrounding international markets
- Show a good understanding of Treaty Reinsurance Protection and Facultative Reinsurance
- Apply knowledge of underwriting guidelines, philosophy, techniques, and national/local filing regulations
- Effectively assess risk and provide risk insights across new and renewal business
- Work effectively in a team-based environment to deliver a high level of service to customers
- Manage time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business to meet service expectations
