Job description
The Director - Interior Design at Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate oversees creative direction and delivery of interior design across a diverse portfolio including retail, residential, commercial, and hospitality projects. The role involves leading internal teams and external consultants through all design phases from concept development to final execution, ensuring innovation, functionality, and alignment with brand and quality standards. Responsibilities include developing interior design brand standards, creating guidelines, design and technical standards, specifications of FF&E and OS&E, monitoring design implementation, procurement of design packages, on-site construction observation, managing budgets, and ensuring adherence to applicable standards and regulations. The Director drives design excellence, cost efficiency, and sustainability while enhancing user experience and aesthetic value across projects. Extensive knowledge of trends, materials, techniques, and full design lifecycle management is essential.

Key responsibilities
- Lead the interior design function and projects from concept development to completion, managing multiple projects and implementing a coherent design process
- Develop Interior Design brand standards and guidelines in line with Al-Futtaim Real Estate's vision
- Create guidelines, design & technical standards, specifications of FF&E and OS&E, and technical services guidelines
- Lead interior design projects from layouts to detailed drawings and FF&E specifications, ensuring integration of standards into unified schemes
- Maintain knowledge of trends, materials, techniques, and market developments in interior design
- Assess market and consultant candidates, define evaluation criteria, conduct interviews, and select designers
- Define Design Scope and contribute to creation, management, and closeout of design agreements and control of design costs
- Procure and verify acceptable design packages for each design stage
- Conduct periodic on-site observation during construction to monitor compliance with plans and requirements
- Review design drawings, submittals, and samples
- Represent Al-Futtaim Real Estate in meetings to review interior design proposals, contracts, and mock-ups
- Monitor department KPIs and performance
- Direct and motivate interior design teams including Designers and Draftsmen
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Experience & skills
- Minimum of 20+ years of experience in interior design with a strong portfolio across hospitality, residential, and retail sectors in the Middle East
- Extensive experience in FF&E, materials, finishes, and space planning
- Experience in client-side roles or leading interior design consultancies, overseeing full design lifecycle from concept to completion
- Exceptional communication skills with ability to engage and manage a wide range of stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or relevant subject
- Strong knowledge of applicable standards, regulations, and procedures
