Job description
The Vice President – Legal Counsel at Aldar in Abu Dhabi provides strategic legal advice on real estate transactions, corporate projects, and commercial leasing, supporting the business to achieve its objectives while mitigating legal risks. This role oversees legal documentation, manages external counsel, ensures compliance, and advises on operational and transactional matters across the UAE and internationally. The position requires deep expertise in UAE legal frameworks, excellent negotiation skills, and prior experience in international law firms or large in-house legal teams.

Key responsibilities
- Structure, draft, and negotiate strategic investment and partnership real estate transactions including hotels, schools, malls, and offices.
- Advise on leasing documentation and manage tenant relations, renewals, and enforcement matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate property management, facilities management, licences, permits, and service agreements.
- Support senior legal team on complex acquisitions, divestments, and strategic corporate projects.
- Coordinate legal inputs across Commercial, Finance, Treasury, Tax, Insurance, Strategy, and Asset Management.
- Provide proactive legal advice to mitigate risks and support business objectives.
- Train business teams on legal processes, templates, and updates.
- Appoint, instruct, and manage external law firms; control legal spend within budget.
- Maintain accurate records of advice, contracts, and active matters; prioritize and manage workloads efficiently.
- Stay current with UAE legal updates and maintain compliance with internal governance.
Experience & skills
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in transactional real estate law and asset management; experience in international law firms or large in-house teams preferred.
- At least 2+ years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Law Degree (Bachelor or Postgraduate Diploma) and Common Law qualification required.
- Deep knowledge of UAE legal systems and regulatory frameworks, including onshore and ADGM.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple internal and external stakeholders effectively.
- Excellent communication, relationship management, and team collaboration skills.
