Job description
Turning a natural language question into a relevant home recommendation is harder than it sounds, and that's the problem PF Scout exists to solve within Property Finder's marketplace. As a Software Engineer on this team, you work across the stack, from user experience and APIs through data retrieval, search, LLM integrations, observability, and production operations. Features get built and shipped end to end across TypeScript and Node.js backend services alongside React based frontend experiences, with you owning implementation, testing, deployment, and iteration based on real user behavior. Search and data intensive problems make up a good part of the work too, covering retrieval, ranking, aggregation, caching, and large property datasets. AI powered product experiences involving LLMs, tool calling, streaming, and conversational state also fall within scope, built and evolved alongside fallback handling for when things don't go as planned. Product managers, designers, data teams, and other engineers all collaborate closely with you to turn ambiguous customer problems into solutions that actually hold up in production. Latency, relevance, reliability, and cost all matter here, not just correctness, since Scout serves millions of property seekers at scale. Within the first couple of months, success looks like independently owning and shipping a meaningful Scout capability from customer experience through backend orchestration, then improving it using real production data.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Build and ship end-to-end features for PF Scout across TypeScript/Node.js backend services and React based frontend experiences
- Own features from design through production, including implementation, testing, deployment, observability, and iteration
- Work on search and data-intensive problems involving retrieval, ranking, aggregation, caching, and large property datasets
- Develop and evolve AI powered product experiences involving LLMs, tool calling, streaming, conversational state, and fallbacks
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, data teams, and other engineers to turn ambiguous customer problems into reliable solutions
- Participate in code review and design review to maintain a high engineering bar across the team
- Communicate technical trade-offs clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders, backed by data
- Diagnose production issues and improve the reliability and performance of owned services
Experience & skills
- Bring 4 or more years of software engineering experience, with meaningful experience building production, consumer-facing applications
- Show strong proficiency in TypeScript, particularly Node.js backend development using frameworks such as Express.js or NestJS
- Demonstrate experience building modern frontend applications using React, Next.js, or a comparable React based stack
- Carry hands-on experience with at least one search, analytics, or data-intensive system such as OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, or Redis, including debugging and improving query performance
- Own software in production, understanding service behavior, diagnosing issues, and improving reliability and performance
- Apply a good understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including testing, maintainability, code quality, and pragmatic system design
- Gain experience building LLM-backed applications, including tool or function calling, streaming, and structured outputs, considered a plus
- Use production experience with AWS and cloud-native technologies such as ECS/EKS, Lambda, or RDS, considered a plus
