Job description
The External Audit Manager (Banking) at PwC Dubai is responsible for leading high-profile banking and financial services audits across the UAE. This role oversees the full audit lifecycle, from planning to execution, while ensuring compliance with international standards, IFRS requirements, and local regulatory frameworks. The Audit Manager acts as a strategic advisor to clients, providing insights on financial reporting and regulatory changes, while maintaining strong professional relationships with senior management and audit committees. Additionally, the role includes coaching and mentoring junior team members, driving digital transformation initiatives, and contributing to business development through client engagement and portfolio growth. Success in this position requires a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership, and communication skills, combined with a forward-thinking, innovative approach to audit delivery.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of banking and financial services clients, overseeing day-to-day client liaison and technical issue resolution
- Design and execute audit strategies in alignment with engagement leader guidance, ensuring quality, compliance, and risk mitigation
- Advise clients on IFRS updates, regulatory changes, and complex accounting issues relevant to financial services
- Oversee audit projects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality audit reports while managing resources effectively
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, including board-level and audit committee interactions
- Coach, mentor, and develop audit team members while promoting well-being and engagement
- Drive adoption of digital audit tools, alternative delivery models, and audit transformation technologies
- Participate in recruitment and selection processes to hire top talent according to PwC standards
- Support business development by identifying opportunities for new client services and strengthening existing client relationships
- Stay updated with regional and global financial market trends, regulations, and banking developments
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 6-8 years of professional experience in external audit within a Big 4 firm
- Completed professional qualification such as ACCA, CA, ACA, or CPA
- Strong experience auditing banking or insurance clients (preferred)
- In-depth knowledge of IFRS, especially IFRS9 and IFRS17, and financial services regulations
- Proficiency in International Standards on Auditing (ISAs)
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage with clients and team members
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Arabic is a plus
- Proven project management skills, capable of handling audits from planning to completion
- Ability to challenge processes and ensure high-quality testing and documentation
- Experience using audit technologies and data analytics tools
- Strong leadership and team-building skills, fostering collaboration and constructive challenge
