Job description
The Senior Accountant – Tax and Expenditure at a leading telecom and digital services provider in the UAE will be responsible for managing corporate tax compliance, accounting for operating expenditures, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. The role involves preparing and reviewing corporate tax returns, VAT and other indirect tax filings, and managing tax provision processes under IAS 12. The position will also support external tax audits, tax planning initiatives, and ensure compliance with evolving tax legislation. On the expenditure side, the Senior Accountant will oversee Opex and Capex accounting, vendor and supplier management, invoice processing, and monthly general ledger reconciliations. Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in tax, accounting, or general ledger operations, ideally within the telecoms sector or a multinational organization. Big 4 experience and Oracle ERP expertise are strong advantages. The role requires strong analytical and Excel skills, process improvement mindset, and the ability to work under demanding conditions while delivering accurate results on time.
Required skills
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and review corporate tax returns and VAT/indirect tax filings in compliance with local and international laws
- Manage quarterly and annual tax provision processes and ensure accurate IAS 12 reporting
- Support external tax audits and liaise with tax authorities
- Analyze tax legislation changes and assess their business impact
- Assist in transfer pricing documentation and review intercompany transactions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure tax efficiency in business transactions
- Support tax planning initiatives and risk mitigation
- Ensure effective internal controls over tax processes
- Manage Opex accounting, including monthly accruals, estimates, and closing
- Validate and process vendor invoices for Opex and Capex
- Develop and maintain controls to ensure completeness of general ledger
- Prepare schedules, supporting documents, and reconciliations for GL accounts
- Coordinate with financial reporting team to ensure accurate monthly reports
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities as required
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by line manager
Experience & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting (mandatory)
- Professional certifications (CA, CPA, CMA, CTA) are an advantage
- 5+ years of experience in tax, general ledger, or accounting operations
- Telecom or multinational industry experience is preferable
- Big 4 auditing firm experience is a plus
- Proficiency in Oracle ERP (EBS or Fusion) preferred
- Strong knowledge of tax laws, international tax, and accounting standards
- Excellent analytical and advanced Excel skills
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and best practices
- Ability to work independently and under pressure with tight deadlines
- Strong teamwork and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities and workloads
- Proactive in suggesting process improvements for efficiency
