Job description
The Staff Backend Engineer at Lucidya serves as a technical authority and mentor across the CX platform. This remote role involves leading architectural decisions, guiding implementation, ensuring system reliability at scale, and elevating engineering standards. The engineer will partner with Product and AI teams to build production-grade backend services while driving technical excellence across teams.
Required skills
Backend system design and development using Python or Ruby on Rails
Architectural decision-making for distributed, scalable SaaS systems
Microservices and event-driven architecture expertise
Cloud platforms (AWS or equivalent) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
Database design and optimization (PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch)
Production-grade reliability, security, and performance engineering
CI/CD, DevOps practices, observability and monitoring
Mentorship and technical leadership for senior and mid-level engineers
GenAI coding tools usage (Copilot, ChatGPT) to accelerate engineering productivity
Cross-team collaboration and technical stakeholder influence
Key responsibilities
- Drive architecture decisions for high-scale CX SaaS systems
- Conduct final design and code reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices
- Build and evolve production-grade backend services using Python or Ruby on Rails
- Ensure platform scalability, reliability, performance, and security
- Partner with Product and AI teams to translate requirements into robust technical solutions
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers and influence cross-team engineering standards
- Identify and mitigate systemic technical risks proactively
- Champion engineering best practices, microservices, and event-driven architectures
- Optimize CI/CD pipelines, observability, and DevOps processes
- Leverage GenAI tools to improve code quality and engineering velocity
Experience & skills
- 10+ years backend engineering experience in production SaaS systems
- Hands-on expertise in Python or Ruby on Rails at scale
- Deep experience with distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven patterns
- Strong experience with AWS or equivalent cloud platforms
- Proficiency in Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch
- Proven technical leadership and mentorship experience
- Excellent communication and stakeholder influence skills
- Practical experience using GenAI coding tools for development efficiency
- Preferred: CX, social listening, or real-time engagement platform experience
- Preferred: High-growth startup environment experience
- Preferred: Observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry), DevOps improvement experience
- Preferred: AI-enabled product development experience, open-source contributions or technical publications
