Job description
The Senior/Principal Piping Designer role involves translating complex engineering design concepts into practical, constructible deliverables within major upstream and midstream Oil & Gas projects. The position prepares mechanical drawings, piping layouts, models, diagrams, blueprints, and bills of material using CAD and CADD software, ensuring full compliance with company and industry design codes and standards. Responsibilities include developing detailed working drawings from equipment specifications, creating layouts and plans, performing calculations, establishing drafting standards, generating material take-offs, designing from rough sketches, supporting FEED/detailed design deliverables, conducting site visits and surveys, preparing estimates, participating in bid evaluations, producing reports, solving design problems with cost-effective solutions, and maintaining technical accuracy and design quality. The role also includes coordinating with project engineers, discipline engineers, and project management, ensuring timely delivery of engineering outputs, maintaining quality control through review of othersā work, and potentially coordinating small projects or preparing specifications for complex equipment or processes.

- Create piping drawings, plans, layouts, calculations, and bills of material to support engineering deliverables
- Work on assignments requiring diverse design procedures and techniques for complex engineering programs
- Record observations, perform calculations, and prepare technical reports for assigned tasks
- Execute layouts, design, and checking work from supplied base data
- Design and prepare detailed drawings from rough sketches requiring intricate calculations and engineering principles

- Assist in preparing bid evaluations for project activities
- Design and construct models, prototypes, and processes, evaluating data and preparing recommendations and reports

- Generate bills of materials from completed designs to support procurement and construction
- Coordinate small projects and prepare specifications for complex equipment or processes at higher experience levels
- Review design quality, technical accuracy, and drawing completeness, including checking work of others
- Plan assigned work effectively, liaise with project teams, and manage man-hours to meet project targets
- Conduct site visits and surveys, contributing to site visit reports and engineering assessments
Experience & skills
- Ability to develop piping drawings, layouts, and bill of materials using CAD and CADD software
- Capability to perform technical calculations, prepare reports, and translate engineering concepts into constructible designs
- Knowledge of engineering drafting standards, industry codes, and piping design practices
- Experience preparing mechanical or digital drawings, blueprints, diagrams, and 3D/2D models
- Skill in estimating time, quantities, materials, and labor requirements for design and construction tasks
- Ability to review, check, and ensure technical accuracy and quality of drawings and design documents
- Competence in conducting site visits, surveys, and providing related technical inputs
- Experience collaborating with discipline engineers, project engineers, and project management teams
- Understanding of cost-effective design solutions and ability to identify design optimization opportunities
