Job description
Cost estimation, procurement, quantity measurement and commercial reporting for retail fit-out projects sit at the centre of this Junior QS role at Home Centre. Project Management, Design, Procurement, MEP, Finance, VM and Site teams all factor into the daily work, since commercial decisions rarely get made in isolation. You'll prepare detailed quantity take-offs from architectural, structural and MEP drawings, feeding straight into BOQs, cost estimates and project budgets. Procurement support covers civil and architectural works, joinery, flooring, ceiling, painting, MEP, signage, glass and metal works, alongside bid comparisons and commercial evaluations. Cost control runs through commitment registers and monthly reporting, tracking budget against committed cost, actual cost and forecast to catch overruns early. Variations get identified, recorded and monitored through a dedicated Change Order Register, with quantity measurements and rate build-ups prepared for each one. Subcontractor payments get checked against site progress, with retention, advance payments and deductions monitored through to final accounts. You're expected to bring 2 to 4 years of QS experience, ideally within fit-out, retail, commercial interiors or construction. Retail fit-out brings its own commercial pressures too, since tight opening dates and accelerated procurement timelines shape how materials, specifications and VM requirements get managed.
